This is (or should be) why Gooddell is cracking down on helmet-to-helmet hits.

Desean Jackson and Dunta both had them on, as did Collie. Exactly. And Desean said he didn't want to wear one of the new ones because it was "ugly". So stupid. But it shouldn't be their decision in the first place. Goodell should make them MANDATORY. But he won't because they cost more and, like Desean said, they're "ugly". Goodell would rather get rid of "ugly" hits than institute "ugly" helmets because THEY(the people who think their opinion is worth a fuck and a half) wouldn't like them. Helmets alone can't solve the problem because a lot of it has to do with the brain moving inside the skull - that's how people get severe concussions without hitting their heads

RE: This is (or should be) why Gooddell is cracking down on helmet-to-helmet hits.
Those new helmets are incredible, they aren't perfect but they are great compared to the Riddell VSR-4 which players still seem to favour. I have played wearing the Schutt XP, its all the new technology inside the traditional shell with some slight shaping modifications. I will say this though, I didn't enjoy playing in the new helmet with those low profile shoulder pads. If my head got anywhere near an explosive hit it would just rattle. And that was a routine thing, I felt sick and dizzy and distressed quite a few times. I bought the neck roll for the pads and the problems stopped. I didn't have a small neck either 20.5 inches at the time.
They really do need to consider making the XP, Ion4 and RevoSpeed the standard for helmets in the NFL. The VSR-4 is a helmet that didn't even come with 6 point pick up as standard. Players like Ray Lewis who where them with the 6 point strapping and to get their helmets modified. I also think if they are serious about player safety they need to be stricter with uniform regulation when it comes to making sure players strap up their helmet. I see it far too often, and it needs to be proactively discouraged and phased out. I know it isn't the same, but here opposition players were actually allowed to point out this to the nearest referee and the game would be stopped and a 5 yard penalty enforced and the player was made to strap up. These guys I believe care more about winning their games than hits to their pocket, the message will soon get across when these things have an impact on their team more than just themselves. |

Not being "that guy" -
But I know tons of people that age with the same problems. And they did not play football. Maybe these players are just like them, and football is not, alone, causing it. Formerly SBC Falcon
