I totally agree, with what Pat Yaz says, see below. They got a lot of decisions to make and they all to me point to D-line. Or changing to 3-4. They have to fix that. Angel Sucks Sad

What it means: For the second time in three seasons, the Falcons went 13-3 and earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC but couldn’t parlay home-field advantage into a trip to the Super Bowl. At least the Falcons won a playoff game (they defeated Seattle in the divisional round) for the first time in the Mike Smith/Matt Ryan era. But this team had visions of much more than one playoff win, so the ending is disappointing. Smith is not on any hot seat because of his huge regular-season success, but he and the Falcons will enter the 2013 season under enormous pressure to win it all. This team is loaded with talent, and fans and owner Arthur Blank are running out of patience.

What’s next: The Falcons will head into an offseason that will involve some key personnel decisions. Cornerback Brent Grimes, left tackle Sam Baker and William Moore highlight the class of potential free agents. Tight end Tony Gonzalez has hinted strongly at retirement, and aging running back Michael Turner could become a salary-cap casualty. This team still has a good nucleus in place, but the loss showed that flaws remain. Smith and Thomas Dimitroff will have to spend the offseason tweaking the roster to try to get the Falcons ready to take the next step.

Grimes will be 31. Resigning him will give us 3 30+ corners.
Baker comes back. He earned it.
Ryan will get a huge payday that will be cap friendly.
Moore will get resigned but if he asks too much he might walk.
Gonzo is coming back.....I'm calling that one.

I think your right about Gonzo, I think the taste of the super bowl being so close, will get him. Also its not the offenses fault, this was entirely on the defense. I would hate to see Abe go, but if we went 3-4, its the kind of defense Nolan is the best at and we have most of the players to do it. Just need a couple like a huge D tackle. Angel Sad its not like when we tried the 3-4 before. There are a lot that could be converted, like Babs could play DE, and Bierman could be a OLB.

While I love when we get out to a big lead, we become flat and "lazy" and let teams back in. I think that falls on Smith. I don't want him fired. That thought hasn't crossed my mind yet and probably won't. But Smith does need reevaluate how to approach the game when we get out to a lead. We need a killer instinct and just put teams away. If you let a team score, they get confidence. Your defenses loses some confidence. Next drive, the other team scores again. Your offense has a three and out. Your defense is tired and gives up another score. This has happened HOW many times under Smith. It's unacceptable. It falls on Smith.

As for the defense, we still need a beefy, strong, penetrating, strong at the point of attack NT. Our current DTs get washed out on run plays and we get gashed too much up the middle. We also suck when the RB cuts to the outside because no one is usually there. Need to have better gap integrity. We also need another pass rushing DE because Biermann is more a "utility guy" and not a true pass rusher. And Abe isn't getting younger. I also think we need to cut Dunta because he sucks in coverage and is just isn't quick enough to defend the slants and quicker routes. Put McClain and Asante out there and find a nickel CB.

For offense, it's simple. OL. OL. OL. Move Konz to center and get a RG. A true RG. Not an undersized C converted to RG.

I think the offense has to take some blame. 0 points in the second half is unacceptable.

Defense couldn't stop a soul in the second half either. They take blame too.

We just melted in the second half...again

Even though one of those turnovers was on Ryan, they both killed us. Turnovers don't win games. If we had just one FG in the second half, Matt Bryant would have had a chip shot FG to win us the game instead of it coming down to one last pass.

The fumble was worse than the pick. We could have scored there.

I think that 99% of the fan base understands that this team needs to invest heavily along both lines. Doing so would put us in the SB on multiple occaisions.

Grimes is too old to sign to a lucrative contract. He will get his money and I wish him well. Hopefully, he will not land in our division.

Turner will be gone.

Gonzo will not return, unless he is a late season signing. He needs to be with his family in California.

Moore, Ryan and Baker will get re-signed.

Two old guard players should get released, and it will be painful. Both McClure and Abraham should be allowed to go. I am sorry, but we need to move on.

I expect us to find another smart DB and tough RG in free agency.

I agree, but its HARDER TO FIND DES for the 4-3 then going 3-4, your signature says it all. We have to fix the lines, even if it means switching it in a different direction. Huh Our o-line is tons better, but our D-line in any direction SUCKS.
