There Are Some Real Dumbasses on the OMB

RE: There Are Some Real Dumbasses on the OMB
Vick paid his time. He ruined 2007. Now look at 2010...

Our franchise is better than it has ever been and we are playoff bound and potentially going to the SuperBowl.

Vick started our new regime. We are, and will be successful without him.

So in essence we should be thankful for Vick. I don't see us in the same place without what he did. By the end of this year we will no longer be considered underdogs "pun intended".

Here are some of my thoughts on Vick that I posted on the AFMB:

As far as Vick goes there is a huuuge difference. Nobody, and I mean nobody was a bigger Mike Vick fan than me. When we drafted him, it was the first Falcons jersey I bought since Deion Sanders 11 years before.I spent thousands of dollars on merchandise and game tickets to go see and support that guy. Mike Vick's success here was tainted. Tainted by his admission of some horrible, disgusting, nearly unforgivable behavior. My memories of that NFC Championship game, the Pro-Bowls, all those spectactular plays were washed away when he plead guilty. He humiliated me for defending him for all those years. Ron Mexico, the water bottle, the admission to not giving it his all in a late season playoff run, blowing our chance to get that coveted first back to back winning season, flipping off our own fans. I stood by him 100% after all of that. When he claimed his innocence, I backed him all the way. I made an *** out of myself defending that guy believing he was a vitim of poor choices by family members taking advantage of his generosity. The day he knew his goose was cooked, and admitted guilt, the 6 years of limited success he had with this team was ruined. I didn't even know if I could watch football anymore. I have never had something so trivial as a football player's behavior hurt me like that did.

As far as I'm concerned, Mike Vick ruined 2001-2006 for the Falcons organization. We might as well have gone 0-80 when he was with us. All of the efforts of his teammates, all of the exciting victories, the win in Lambeau, the dismantling of the Rams, are tainted with an asterisk stamped in pit bull blood. Maybe I'm being dramatic, and maybe I need to let it go, but man 2007 was a horrible experience that I don't ever want to experience as a fan again. Mike Vick made me ashamed to be a Falcons fan. I stood by this team through Marion Campbell, devastating losses, Rams and Niner dominaance, player deaths, I have been there. Mike Vick made me question my love for the team of my childhood, the team I watched on my late grandad's lap. And on top of all of that how I felt pales in comparison to the horrible, atrocious despicable things he did to those dogs. He glorified torture. A year in jail and a season out of football won't make up for that. Whether he served his time or not. #### Mike Vick and #### any Falcons "fan" who supports him.

i disagree, he ruined 2001-2007 by tainting all the good from those seasons. I feel like the Falcons are a really good expansion team now.

May not be what you want to hear, but I'm a Christian and forgiveness is what I do best.

Not really...a lot of people like to throw the race card and all of you are wrong! lol

Vick was loved by ALL Falcon fans up until the point his decisions caught up with him. I've had numerous talks with football fans on the subject and some believe that the Falcons are at fault for letting Vick go...as you know, I had to set them straight. Bottom line, those type of people get their fandom confused with reality. A lot of it has to do with their maturity level too, which is why I fairly seldom posting on the AFMB anymore...I posted on their today only because I'm at the shop and I'm waiting my turn.

Forgiveness is fine on a personal level. I can forgive him for crimes if he is truely remorseful for them. Although I don't believe he's contrite. He's hurt that his actions hurt his career. That's what he's sorry about, and said so in radio interviews.

The problem here is not only did his actions tarnish our franchise, he's overshadowing the success we are currently having. TATF is a freaking mess with Vick trolls. I can't enjoy this season as much because it's freaking Michael Vick 24-7 on ESPN, on NFLN. No matter how much you can forgive, you can't forget. I can't reminisce about games from a few years ago because it always comes back to Vick. Like it or not. Until we get a championship, we will never clean the stain he left.

This is football. It's a game. Fan comes from the term fanatic. Reasonableness is thrown out the window in it's very definition. When it comes to being an Atlanta Falcons fan, I don't have to follow the norms of society that I do in my everyday life. I don't have to respect someone's support of the Saints, like I have to respesct someone's religious or political views, whether I like them or not. Even if Vick just left as a free agent, it's not in my interest to support him if he's playing for a rival competitor. I'm definitely not going to support him when his off the field actions have real consequences to his community, or to our country. Being a fan, you get to compartmentalize one little asspect of life where you are encouraged to discriminate, insult, act crazy and unreasonable. I can get on Rivals central and call all Ain'ts fans sex offenders and get a chuckle about it, because it's not serious, it's not real. Being a fan is not the real world. It sucks when the real world gets drug into it, the Vick situation did that. Just like I'm sure Ain'ts fans are sick of hearing that Katrina is why they won a Super Bowl.

You can forgive him, doesn't mean you have to support him. And Falcons fans shouldn't be rubbing his current success in our faces at the expense of at what looks to be our greatest team ever.

If he's playing against Atlanta I want him beaten severely. Point blank. I never like to see the saints win or the Bucs. I understand totally what you're saying and I agree. I was just explaining to you that I don't know how not to let it go. Sometimes I like to see D.Hall do well, even Schaub. Do I miss any of them? Of course, in the same way you might miss a gf even though she was a REAL pain. LOL!!!

I don't mind seeing players like Schaub, Kerney, or even Laurent Robinson do well. But if they were a punk like DHall, Brooking, or Vick, I want them to suffer (purely on the field)

RE: There Are Some Real Dumbasses on the OMB
Lots of people act like this tale is done. I don't think it is. Sure, he's playing great now and handling things properly, but that's easy to do when things are going well. Let's see what happens when he faces adversity, and just like for everyone else, adversity will come (hopefully Sunday in the form of a monster Giants pass rush).

To me, facing adversity will be a far more accurate barometer of how far he has "progressed". Will he handle it with class and work even harder or will he flip off the fans? History says the latter, hope says the former, we'll see where the reality lies.

From my perspective he doesn't play for the Falcons so I hope he has a miserable second half, but then again I wish that for every player on every team that has any impact on our playoff situation.
