Remember those big playoff wins against PHI, NO, GB, STL, SF and MIN?

C'mon, man. You can't refer to an early-season locally televised game like the Dimry debacle as a "big moment" while just ignoring all of the times we actually won games in the postseason.

There is no curse. We were simply outplayed and outcoached last Saturday. Just as the Patriots were.

RE: The bigger the moment, the bigger the flop
My main point of dispute is the "Same Old Falcons" line. It's simply not true. I think people that say this either didn't live through the horror of the past or have a terrible memory, I don't know.

I have no problem with people venting or being frustrated, I did my share of that over the weekend too. However I do have a difficult time when something is said that just doesn't agree with hard numbers, so here we go.

In 36 seasons before Blank bought the team, our record was 212-327-5, a winning percent of 0.389. In 36 seasons we had 6 total playoff appearances, averaging 1 playoff appearance every 6 seasons.

In the 9 seasons of the Blank era our record is 77-66-1, a winning percentage of 0.535. We have made the playoffs 4 times in those nine years, averaging a playoff appearance every 2.25 seasons.

If we break it down further to include only the Smitty era, in 3 seasons we are 33-15, a winning percentage of 0.688, 2 playoff appearances, averaging making the playoffs 2 out of every 3 seasons.

There is still work to be done, but nobody can deny that this is a hell of a start. If you drew a trend line it's not hard to figure out which direction it's going.

The breakdown of "eras" is like this:

Now 0.688
Blank 0.535
2000s 0.500
1990s 0.450
1980s 0.375
1970s 0.417
1960s 0.218

How about record?

Since Blank: 5 winning seasons, 3 losing seasons, 1 500 season

Before Blank: 8 winning seasons, 26 losing seasons, 2 500 seasons

So, if the conclusion one draws from this is that these are the "Same Old Falcons", that's fine, go ahead, you have every right to be to be incorrect.

What I see is that these are two completely different organizations who should be judged independently.

How about at least a Super Bowl appearance?

Ok, sure, before Blank it took 33 seasons to get a Super Bowl appearance.

So if the Falcons don't make it back to the Super Bowl by 2040 then the Smith's shall have won. Until then that's an absurd comparison.

RE: The bigger the moment, the bigger the flop
It is what it is at this stage...

I will admit, a part of the reason I was so upset is b/c of what a lot of folks are saying in this post. It was a big moment for our team (IMO the biggest game we've had since '04 at least) and it's not that we lost. There is no shame in losing to a good team. It's that we looked like we had no business being on the field with the Packers and that shouldn't have happened.

That said, all I can do is hope that TD, Smitty, and everyone else learns from this and we can build on this year. I have my questions about BVG, but Smitty has given me no reason not to trust him to get this thing figured out. If he says Van Gorder is our guy...then he's our guy.

Go to their message boards and tell me what you find.

I guarantee you that you won't find very much, "Oh, Belichick won us like 3 Superbowls a while back, so who cares if he hasn't won the big one in 6 years now."

People are questioning, some think Brady can't win the big ones any more, some think Belichick isn't the "mad genius" he once was, etc.

We're not unique. Every fan base CONSTANTLY questions everything going on unless they've won the Superbowl that year. If a coach has been around for any more than 3 years and hasn't won the Superbowl yet, people will be questioning the organization and wondering if they'll get to/back to glory under that coach.

That's completely irrelevant to the point you are attempting to make with this thread, which is we always flop in big games.

Sorry, but it's simply not true. The 1998 NFC Championship game was an infinitely bigger game than the one where Dimry gave up 5 TDs and we didn't flop at all in that one. Hell, even the nationally televised Sunday night contest against Cincinnati that same season as the Dimry beatdown was on a bigger stage and we shined in that victory.

I understand you're upset, but you're really reaching with this thread.

RE: The bigger the moment, the bigger the flop
My god give this crap a rest. We lost a game. Get over it.

Yeah...it is a hell of a lot of fun when we are winning games. The players, coaches, water boys and everyone go out there every week and work their asses off to basically entertain us. This year was one of the more entertaining in our team's history. Do we sit back, reflect on it and be thankful they gave us such a good time? Nope. Piss, moan and whine anonymously on the internet, then claim "we as fans need to be heard." If Blank was staring you right in the face, you'd never have the balls to say this to him. Your balls would cower into your spleen and you'd be asking him to sign your t-shirt.

Shit like this is ridiculous. We are living through the #1 best stretch of seasons in FALCONS HISTORY. How can you be so bitchy about an organization who has finally gotten it right with their front office and staff? This team is headed in very much the right direction. If you can't see that then I feel sorry for you because you'll just never be happy.

Same ol' Falcons? No. Same ol' shitty fans.
