The Walking Dead
I'm a huge fan of zombie movies, and having never read the comics, I love this show two episodes in. It's surreal to even have a zombie show on cable, let alone one based on a critically acclaimed graphic novel. AMC is hands down the best network for original programming right now, IMHO.
******Spoilers********* A couple of things that floored me in last night's episode because I've never seen done in a zombie movie, but now they seem so obvious. For example: 1. Before the body was chopped up to smear on the survivors, Rick pulled the wallet off of the body and read out loud the guy's name, said how much money he had on him when he died, and said he'd tell his family about that person. Without warning he began to brutally hack apart the body, MUCH of which was shown on screen, as well as several very effective reaction shots of the other actors. This scene was brilliant. Yes, other movie's have made attempted to humanize the zombies (including Bub from day of the Dead :facepalm but I've never seen it done as poignantly as last night's episode. Great, great scene.2. Also from this scene, we get something about zombies that I can't recall from any other zombie movie - their sense of smell, and the survivor's awareness of it. In all other zombie movies, it's never really explained how zombies fund humans, they just suddenly appear on screen and eat people. Now, the simple explanation, that seemingly no other movie has thought to include, is that they smell you - humans smell one way, the dead smell another. So they smeared dead shit all over them and were able to walk amongst the zombies. Yes, they sort of did this in Shaun of the Dead, but there was no gut smearing, they just walked like zombies. It was hilarious, but highly unbelievable. Smearing the guts was a great "why didn't I think of that!" moment. Yes, it was slightly cliche and expected that it would then rain and wash the stink off, but that scene wouldn't have been as good had it worked to perfection and they hadn't gotten any trouble from any zombies. Suspense is to be expected and that scene delivered. |

LOVE this show. I'm hooked. When it comes to Vampires, Werewolves, etc, I could give a damn. Zombies, I'm all about it.

I've never read the comics, but most people that have say it's pretty true to the comics. Some people have complained about the acting, but I think it's great. |

RE: The Walking Dead
I want to see that really low budget zombie movie ($75 to make) that won awards at Cannes film festival. The twist was that it was filmed from the point of view of a Zombie!

RE: The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead, the comic (and collected Graphic Novels) are some of my favorite literature of the decade. YES, it is literature. The character depth and drama of the series, over 75 issues long now, has been so well crafted and developed that to not partake in the story is to deprive yourself of the greatest read you will ever enjoy.
The first book is only $10. I guarantee you pick it up, you will HAVE to continue to follow it. The comics have a depth and style that no other medium could capture. A MUST HAVE! I love the series so far. It's like a love letter to the books. Sure they added a thing or two, but only to make it work in the TV medium. Unlike most adaptations that bastardize the source and rip all ideas from the corpse of the material, the series has a respect and reverence that makes it work. Good thing, as to not do so would have made something common.... and The Walking Dead is far from ordinary! Pick up the books man! From one Zombie-Lover to another, you will never find a better story! It's even better to watch from the perspective of one who knows the original source. You will enjoy it more. Formerly SBC Falcon

RE: The Walking Dead
Great episode again last night! Only two more episodes this season though, and then I suppose we'll have to wait till next Halloween for it to start back up. But it's been confirmed next season will have 13 full episodes.
