The Falcons next OC is about to be Available
Every time there is a "Who would you pick as OC" thread, I always have the same answer:

Ralph Friedgen

The guy is an absolute offensive genius who has proven it on every level. With inferior talent usually too.

Well....the Maryland Terrapins are about to make the rather unusual move of firing him the same year that he won ACC Coach of the Year.

So..well....that's interesting.

If Mike Mularkey doest get a HC job, I only got one thing to say...............

BRING 'EM HOME MCKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly know nothing about the guy. Just wonder why he didnt get another chance (or take offers if he did) in the NFL after San Diego.

Interesting.

Here is all you really need to know. He helped an offense get to the Super Bowl with Stan Humphries playing QB.

Well he had a pretty good gig. Before getting the job at Maryland, he was the highest paid assistant coach in college football. He made more money than a lot of head coaches.

Im a little skeptical of college star coaches transitioning to the NFL
I guess if Mularkey leaves to go Fail as a HC again, then we could look at this guy. I think I did hear his name many years ago. It sounds familiar.

well, at end of the day, I'm still going to be suprised if Mike Mularkey gets a head coaching gig again in the NFL. I just think he is a tough sell to a fanbase. However, if Mularkey is ever going to get another head job, this will be the year.

I think Mike Smith loves the balanced run/pass offense that Mularkey brings. I don't think he is going to want to hire a pass happy offensive coordinator like a Ralph Freidgen or a Josh McDaniels.

I think the more likely scenario would be that Bill Musgrave would be promoted from QB coach to offensive coordinator to keep things "same/same".....

that is my guess should MM need to be replaced.

That's reasonable.

But...like I said..he's already been to the Super Bowl as an NFL OC, and probably with the worst QB that ever made it to the Super Bowl. Well....maybe besides Dilfer.

I think you are insane if you think Friedgen's offense is pass happy.

Effective in the passing game, yes, but GT routinely averaged over 200 yards per game on the ground when he was the OC.

By the way, the current NE Patriots offensive play caller, Bill O'Brien, spent his entire career until 2007 in college.

Almost all of it working directly under Ralph Friedgen.
