RE: The Falcons Big Board
Beef,
you do nice work on this board and make quality posts - not trying to denigrate your efforts - good work. However, I must say I reject the premise that Falcons meet/work out every single player they draft. While they generally work out the top picks, I don't think we always work out all the picks in the Dimitroff regime - if you have data that says otherwise, I would defer but don't think we have worked out everyone. If you have the game tapes, combine data and went to a pro-day, you don't necessarily have to have a "sit-down" with a player unless your background investigation shows major character issues...While I agree that a sitdown/workout is generally a good thing - I don't think its the end all/be all and many GMs don't even work out the players they select - so much cloak & dagger stuff going on in this draft process. I think your list "is what it is" - it gives hints to whom the Falcons might take but its just a guide - and don't be suprised if - out of the 9 picks we have now that the Falcons had no meetings with as many as 5 of them. |

Last year I said we were picking Spoon ever since I learned he was one of only 3 people we spent an extra official visit on (Spoon, Peters, & Meier). We had interviewed him at the combine, went to his pro-day, and then used 2 official visits on him for individual workouts & extensive interviewing. All the people who think we were taking Morgan or Griffin over Spoon (if they were still there) didn't take into account that we didn't meet with them as many times as Spoon & guess what... we picked Spoon instead of making a move up to get the others, AND we selected the only other 2 people we spent an extra official visit on. So far this year, the only people who we've done a 2nd official visit with are Bailey & Jernigan. And as much as I don't want Bailey & would much rather have Acho or Houston, it seems pretty odd that we would blow 2 extra official visits on folks slotted high in the draft when you only get a limited number of official visits. I really think this FO wants to speak to everyone they select. We didn't move up to take Franks because we simply watched his film. We didn't select Meier & Schillinger because we simply watched their film. Every selection we've made has been ultra-high character with high academic credentials in college. In fact, if I'm not mistaken I think all but one in the three years (Franks) has their college degree or went to college atleast 4 years and/or was an academic all-american. So add this to the people we've done multiple visits with and the logic starts to look just like what we've been doing. I want Harris, Jernigan/Hankerson, & Acho for our first 3 rounds, but if we end up with Bailey, Jernigan, & Charmichael, i'll be fine with it. So again, I hear ya, but I'm just using logic here rather than total speculation, that's all. |

I just have hard time imagining this regime wanting Allen Bailey - he's a great athlete but he is so slow off the LOS at the snap of the ball - in college - just don't see him as an explosive player. I agree that Falcons have a major hard-on for Jerrel Jernigan but he should be slotted at 2nd round pick - and Jernigan is a higher prospect than Bailey on some boards. I think Bailey would be better cast as a 5 technique 3-4 DE. On NFL Network's "Path to the Draft" over a month ago, Wes Durham mentioned "Sam Acho" as a player he thought the Falcons liked. Wes probably has some type of inside info. - for what its worth. If we are looking at Bailey/Jernigan - then I believe a trade down would definitely be in order. |

RE: The Falcons Big Board
So Beef.....you are saying Falcons have had no contact whatsoever with RB Dion Lewis-Pittsburgh? I would think that his game fits the Falcons C.O.P. back to a "T"......
very disappointing for me if true - I like Dion Lewis a lot. |

Dude fits this team's philosophy so well it was just silly. yeah, just about everybody on the boards thought Falcons were taking either Spoon or Graham. I liked both of them - still do...... Spoon is going to have a break-out year this year - I believe. |

RE: The Falcons Big Board
There is no way I see us spending a 1st round pick on a corner. We still have to pay Grimes and then spend 1st round pick on a corner after giving Robinson all that money . Im going to be just as sick when we draft a DE

And considering Harris would not only be the exceptional value & BPA pick at #27 if by some miracle he's still there, it's a position of huge need for us. He is the PERFECT nickel CB. And he'll be cheap as hell being that late in the 1st round. |
