That was a disco move, not a football move....
It's time for the NFL to admit they have made a complete hash of some of the traditional rules of football. In the Eagles Vikes game this evening we got an explanation from Mr. Hoculi that a pass was ruled complete even though it was trapped against the ground because it didn't move while being trapped.
In another play a reciever caught a pass, got both feet down, landed on his back out of bounds, and juggled the ball momentarily without allowing it to touch the ground. Incomplete. He handed the ball to thte ref without it ever hitting the ground but he had failed to "maintain control throughout the catch." I'm sorry. Possession and two feet down inbounds is completion. Possession and two feet down in the end zone is a touchdown (or a touchback.) How can the ground cause an incompletion but not a fumble after being hit by an opposing player? I'll tell you something else. There is no neutral zone except in Korea. There is a line of scrimmage and it has two sides but no width. Helmets can touch without either player being offsides. And making a "football move" has no more meaning than making a football face. Dang modernistic refs! Go unabated to the devil! |

Hochuli made the trip from Georgia THAT quick? The dude may suck at reffing/life, but he sure can fly first class!

Now I'm not sure it was Hochuli but he was chatty like Hochuli. "The ball did hit the ground but it did not move." How many times have we strained to see whether or not a reciever's hand was under the ball preventing it from hitting the ground? The ball didn't move because it was trapped.

I think it was Mike Cary. He's one of...if not the most experienced officials in football.
I don't really blame him. The rules on a catch are so damn difficult to interpret and open to subjectivity. I didn't agree with either call he made but I could see his point on both of them. |

They took a pick away from Grimes because it touched the ground too. The guy leaps, snags the ball, hits the ground and rolled over to get back to his feet. Make it simple, control in the field of play= catch. Two feet down, with control= catch. Trapping the ball= no catch. |

The rules are ridiculously convoluted and unfortunately won't be changed. They should sweep through the rulebook and simplify at every opportunity. That alone would provide a nice uptick in referee performance, but time and time again the NFL has shown that getting the right call is nowhere near as important as not hurting the referees feelings.
It's a small miracle they got rid of the stupid "he wouldve caught it if he wasn't pushed out of bounds" rule. Oh and I think there should be a 15 yard penalty and expulsion for anyone on the field not making a football face

And yes, I agree the rules for making a valid reception are too convoluted. They need to go back to the way it was before, because it never used to be this confusing |

I wish they'd just analyze some of these rules among the competition committee during the off-season. Some of these rules that did not exist several years ago, or were not seriously execute. . . . I don't know man
