RE: That Horse Collar On The Opening Kickoff
No, that was a definite horse collar. He had his hand right inside the guy's shoulder pad from behind and yanked him down from behind. That is illegal.

RE: That Horse Collar On The Opening Kickoff
I have to agree with Jedi, and it was the same kind of effort tackle in preseason that put a Falcon RB on IR a few years ago. That play is how runners get hurt, so I have no problem with it being called.

RE: That Horse Collar On The Opening Kickoff
Go back and watch the kick off... ( I can't because I deleted it after the loss) look at the blatant holding on Pittsburgh that wasn't called on the return at the start of the play... penalties should have been offsetting at worst. It's just the way game is played... I did think at that moment that it might be a a sign of things to come.

RE: That Horse Collar On The Opening Kickoff
Yeah this was not a fair game by any means and they weren't enforcing the new rules at all. They just looked the other way when on the opening kickoff the guy who was coming up to blow Brown up was grabbed by the neck and spun around, before Brown ran right past him. Pathetic. This was not a horsecollar at all, he grabbed the front AND back, it wasn't a drag down from behind riding a guy down with a chance to break his leg (I'm still mad about Jordan Beck's shortened career) friggin insane.

RE: That Horse Collar On The Opening Kickoff
If you grab the back and side of the neck opening of the shoulder pads, especially on a diving tackle you are highly likely to hurt the guy. I have no problem with the call, as it protects everyone. I hate that the refs missed other calls, but they will make that call 99 out of 100 in the interest of safety, which I have NO issue with.

I could care less about the penalty call. I just like that Bosher has proven that he his a football player and not just a kicker. That was something I liked about Koenen too. I admire kickers who are unafraid to mix it up a bit on the field when necessary.

They won't call it 99/100 they'll call it against Pitt only. Those refs were pretty bad on the bias. They didn't care about safety at all, look how many penalties they didn't call against Pitt on late hits and defenseless players. Give me a break, safety. That was not a horsecollar go read the rule, it includes RIDING the player down to the ground by pulling on the back of his shoulderpads. That was clearly a hit from the side, that didn't have anything to do with a guy being pulled backwards. They got the flag because they went ape crazy and the refs gave it to them. Even the announcers (the very HOMER announcers) sounded very surprised they were looking for a flag. |
