another article by another 'pundit, expert, etc' that says we 'mortgaged' the future.

forgive me if i'm becoming bored with it. I know that JJ is unproven in the NFL, and that is where he is now. I personally am of the mind that we did not mortgage the future, we solidified the future. I know, i'm no expert. it's just my opinion, hey wait, isn't that all these guys are doing, giving an 'opinion'???? how can i possibly say that, seeing that we haven't seen JJ do anything in the NFL yet...for that exact reason, we haven't seen him do anything (include bust in the word ANYthing)

i like the way TD has laid out the thought process and decision making on this. He's our GM, the guy who has twice in three years been voted by his peers (actual football people???) as exec/gm of the year. well that must certainly mean that his drafts and every decision have been perfect then, right????? well of course not. But neither has, well, ANYone elses. you could come real close to saying, well x number of GB's picks over the last few years just won the SB, yeah, is every draft pick from the last few years on that team? ummm....no. Neither is NE's, or Indy, or, or, or...ok i'm already getting long so i won't name the other 28 teams, if you're not sure who they are, NFL.com is a great place to go read about them....

swift, i like that you're not worried about giving your opinion, i hope most here feel they can give their opinion. but after the first oh, (insert any mulitiple digit number that suits you, reader) we get your opinion is you don't like the trade, and we mortgaged the future. i don't doubt your fanhood of the team at all, but man i challenge you to do some study on Julio Jones and come back and make a thread about what potentials he brings to the team, and how he can help us. cause the reality is, like it or not, he's ours... humor me (and everyone else) try finding some potential good in this, you might like it

My opinion is known . ATLJBO has been posting many PRO trade articles I posted a article where the journalist was objective . There was no need for me to give a opinion many know I already feel we traded away to much there was no need for my opinion here . I do believe Jones will be a good player might take year 3 to see the full extent of his value and beyond but unless this results in a Super Bowl next 2 years and Jones plays a big part in the reasoning I will stand by we gave up to much

I look at it is
a) If Jones helps us lead to playoff success next year or 2012 = trade was a short term success
b) if Jones is not a factor next 2 years and hasnt put us over the hump = trade has been a short term failure
c) if Jones turns out to be a pro bowl wr years down the road-= trade was success
d) if Jones turns out to be a bust down the road= TD needs to be fired ..

There really only 2 sides .. I dont think anyone has said Jones will be a bust
but was it worth it giving up future picks

There are also soooooooooooo many other options TD could have done to upgrade this team without mortgage future picks and continue to add depth and talent .
The options are countless , if we were able to to make that such of a bold move ..we could have had 2 (1st round picks) plus keep our 2nd ..

(27) Jimmy Smith DB

then what happens if TD would have offered to move back in first by trading next years 1st and 4th move up to

(30)Kyle Rudolph TE

(59) Greg Little WR NC or Hankerson ..

then we could have added some pieces like Malcom Floyd in free agency

White, Little, Floyd, Jenkins, Douglas , Meier >>> just adding Julio Jones

Talk about weapons ...adding Little, Floyd (FA) and Kyle Rudolph or just Julio Jones

i guess my point is it's an internet forum, everyone has opinions, i'm glad most here feel they can share theirs freely. but not everyone does. as long as it's done in a civil way, good for all, if not, well scroll through the members, you'll find lots with lines through their names, and some quite honestly that surprised me to see as they've been banned. my whole point was to challenge him to realize JJ is ours whether he likes it or not, and to try to find some postiives in having him. Next year, we can see where we would have been in the draft, who's there that might help us more than JJ did in his first year. that's the only way IN MY OPINION any validity gets put on the 'mortgaged the future' argument

Now you're just adding random players. You and I know jimmy smith wouldn't have been picked and neither Greg little. Both have had off field problems.

Also td said in an interview that at #27 TE and LB would have been the options. Which means he didn't rate any other de high beyind can jordan and also any other wr, I.e. baldwin.

Thats the thing and I always give my opinion I have strong beliefs one way or the other .. There are so many people here that rarely give their opinion cause they are too worried about being wrong . I can give 2 shits if im wrong . I WOULD LOVE TO BE WRONG HERE and that Julio puts us over the hump and we win a super bowl . I will eat crow . when your wrong your wrong ..Id rather have someone be wrong or right then someone who picks apart peoples opinion but never gives a opinion one way or the other to me that is being cowardly .

Will I be rooting for JJ to help falcons lead to SB ....FUCK YES ...Im ready to buy my falcons Julio Jones authentic jersey once it hit stores. Im excited for the the player

TD has said we would have picked OT Gabe Camirini at 27. Smith would have been gone because the Ravens would have drafted him already.
