"You consider the guys out there possibly in free agency, as well as what I'm looking right now across the room at the draft board, there are some players that can be difference makers and can add to our depth and contribute to our explosiveness." No, we don't need explosive centers and guards. Centers and guards that can be difference makers and add to our depth and contribute to our explosiveness will suffice. If you thought TD was referring exclusively to the Vincent Jacksons or AJ Greens of the world when he spoke of "adding to our depth," so be it. |

RE: TD interview on 790 the fan
Adding explosive players while sounds nice and all we have 3 things working against us
1)TD lack of understanding or finding explosive players he has not drafted one in 3 years we had a chance when we passed on Dez Bryant for a OLB ..Yea that really is going to help us in the long run there Dmitrofff ..lol 2) Mike Mularkey scheme .. 2 TE sets /lack of attempts down field. Lack of finding able to get his wrs into space. Route design 3) Matt Ryan arm . Matt Ryan is not Aaron Rodgers he will never be that great he will never have that kind of live arm to go out and wing it..Ryan is the proto typical wco quick decision QB . Kid is a winner but does not have the gun slinger mentality and does not fit his persona or his abilities . ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Harrdy Douglas showed the ability to be an explosive player in 2008, but his knee injury did him in. Maybe he'll be back to form next year, maybe not. We'll have to see. But I think TD correctly identified him as an explosive type player at the time. Definitely Mularkey's scheme played into it this year, but he might have just been scheming to the talent. The Falcons didn't run that many 1 WR sets in 2008, and Mularkey has had a plenty explosive offense in the past when he had the WR talent. Ryan's arm isn't all that to be sure, but I don't think his arm strength is really that big of a hindersance to big plays. With his arm he just has to throw the ball a little earlier. The play to Jenkins would have been a TD if he would have put more zip on it, which he could have, but also if he had simply thrown it earlier. He took too much time moving the safety with his eyes, should have just given him a big pump fake and then took the shot. The other thing is .......teams don't have to get explosive plays by throwing the ball down the field. They can get them with guys who can run after the catch. The Falcons don't have any of those guys. They need some. |

RE: TD interview on 790 the fan
TD has specifically said his point of emphasis wasn't to stock up on a bunch of explosive players the first 3 years but to build a solid foundation so that he can go "hard" for those types of players. Sure he has tried to find an explosive player here and there but his main focus has been building an all around solid foundation. He's done that so now he can go for these explosive, game changing types of players.
I swear some of you claim to be fans of this team but don't even listen to our GM when he has said this a million times! He has told us exactly what he plan was, step for step and some of you still don't get it. The guy is sticking to the blueprint and thus far it has worked. Swift you aren't a fan so you don't count.

RE: TD interview on 790 the fan
lol @ all around solid foundation ..
That hasnt won a a playoff game in 3 years ..TD thought he built a nice foundation but his QB is limited/ Sam Baker is anchor at Tackle to protect his franchise was awful for first half of season and his MLB while a tackling machine does not make game changing plays and and is below avg in coverage . While the foundation is nice it only has gotten us to 2 terrible playoff losses and now you can see the CRACKS in the foundation ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . I actually understand the emphasis of making a profit more than most fans I think. We like to think that being under the cap is what matters, but that is pretty naive. Most teams, including the Falcons spend all of their time waaaaay under the cap. |

(01-18-2011 03:37 PM)Swift Is a Die Hard Wrote: lol @ all around solid foundation .. You should GM a team, you would be awesome at it. You act like TD inherited some amazing crop of a football team and now after 3 straight winning seasons he is running it into the ground. Do you not realize how fortunate we are as an organization to be where we are? Before TD even came here many felt we were headed down a path of sucking for the next decade. Would you rather be the Lions, Browns, Bills? That is the kind of shit we were facing before TD came here so please stop with all the BS and have a little perspective. Tough task for a guy like you though. Toots his own horn when he is right about something (obvious ego problem), doesn't acknowledge his numerous ridiculous wrong statements when brought to his attention, and overreacts about every bad thing that happens even if he was saying something completely opposite the week before. You're like John Kerry flip flopping all the time, no consistency. Serious question are you on medication? Your highs are way too high and your lows are way too low, so you probably should be on something.

You bitched non stop about TD drafting players that ended up injured. Well we passed on the guy you said was the next Randy Moss, and look what happened. Randy Moss 2.0 ended up with only 12.5 yards per catch and missed a quarter of the season. 2. 2 TE sets aren't stopping Tom Brady. 3. You're convinced Ryan can only throw 30 yards if he rainbows it, which is damn moronic if he can launch the ball 60 yards in the air. You've proven your intelligence there. |
