RE: Superfan's Cartoons Fired
Sucks to hear that superfan , even though me you and gritz had some arguments in the past its a shame to have food take off your plate for such a silly stance on anything violent or what people might take as racist ..This is the society we live in today where everyone is sue happy/complains /neg reps/ etc hen they feel offended
I will be the first person to admit the HICKORY STICK was dumb as shit and a embarrassment of our fan base but you guys thought it was cute and it was a online community thing and it started to pick up some steam and was able to connect with fan base to player ..I just think grown MEN handing out branches was dumb ..I know I would get killed for this but thats how I feel..We have a fan base that doesnt even get into there seats in time nor do they pack the dome I thought it was just a gimmick .. like a rally monkey etc ( Im more a traditionalist ) With that being said SUPERFAN/GRITZ I do love your work and time and effort you guys put into these drawing are done really well and both of you guys have some talent ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 . - Added by Phocis because of this post. Warned here. Do not remove. |

Whether or not someone liked the actual idea or product that was the Hickory Stick isn't really the point. I know the thing that most people really dug about it was that it was a direct connection between Falcon fans and the players.... I know you mentioned that in your post but I think you downplayed it somewhat.

RE: Superfan's Cartoons Fired
CONNECTION - this is what Falco and the Hickery Stick were all about.
The stick mostly. It brought us (fans) closer to the players and gave us an opportunity to be involved. It gave us something TANGIBLE. I don't like it being taken away. Especially for bull shit excuses. |

(10-27-2010 04:16 AM)Superfan Wrote: You're missing several things, Jedi, but that's ok. Lots of other folks missed it too. Mark - this was one of my favorites. For the record, my Grandfather, God Rest His Soul - was full blooded Cherokee Indian and was born on a reservation in North Carolina. He passed away before you drew this - but I know him well as he is such a part of my heart and so much of why I am who I am. He would have laughed with glee right along with me. Many times - it's people who are not affected who are so indignant about the rights of others. People have gotten so wrapped up in walking on tip toes to avoid stepping on another persons feelings that they have forgotten how to laugh and enjoy life. I would never judge another person by the color of their skin or their Nationality. Most Americans have many backgrounds because there is such a hodge podge of individuals who live together, fall in love and the children who are a product of that union are a mix of both heritages. Take my family (please .... I kid I kid!) My grandmother was brought here at the age of 3 from Ireland and was from a strict Irish Catholic family. She met and fell in love with my Grandfather, a full blooded Cherokee Indian. For this, she was kicked out of the church. Their marriage of 53 years before her death was a good one and her faith never waivered regardless of the judgement of those in power. My mother grows up and falls in love and marries a man of German descent and I was born. Now - I'm Irish - Indian - German. I grow up and fall in love with my husband who is full blooded Aztec Indian and whose parents were both born in Mexico of course - and never spoke English a day of their life. We have children. Those Children are Irish-Cherokee Indian - German and Mexican Aztec Indian. My two Daughters grow up and have children (odd story - but they married brothers and had their first child, divorced, ended up marrying another set of brothers and each had 3 children from that marriage) My grandchildren from the first set of brothers are Irish-Cherokee Indian - German - Mexican Aztec Indian - African American - Japanese and British. My grandchildren from the second set of brothers are Irish - Cherokee Indian - German - Mexican Aztec Indian - Jamaican and English. My grandson and his girlfriend, who is Cuban, are about to have their first child. And so life goes in this Country and in others. The truth is that there are few people in this country who lay claim to "Pure-Blood" background or whatever it is called these days. We are all individuals who did not ask to be born to the parents who conceived us - so why should we be judged by our birth circumstances. Yet, we've become so "sensitive" about crossing some line which really wouldn't exist at all if people would just learn to judge a person by who they are - that we've forgotten how to laugh at and with those around us for pure joy. I find it a very sad place that we as human beings have found ourselves. Because of the ignorance in our history and more importantly, the ignorance in our present - we are not allowed to laugh unless we've filtered all the material for possible misunderstandings. Sad. ![]()

RE: Superfan's Cartoons Fired
Supes I'm so sorry this happened to such a talented individual as yourself. I can just picture the pencil neck geek doormat with two mortgages scared to lose his job making this decision. What puzzles me is I never once found your toons even borderline offensive. Again Mark sometimes bad things happen to good people but karma's a ***** for whoever is responsible.
It's not much but your toons made my whole family laugh and Oh God is the wife gonna be pissed when she finds out. She loved your work but as silly as it seems you brought Falco into our daily lives he made us laugh and smile. Words cannot not express how much your work was appreciated.

Well, a few years ago, I was up at St Jude and they were having prom for the young ladies going through treatment who couldn't attend their own proms. They dressed them up all pretty and everything - but when it came to the wigs - most of them didn't want them. I was helping out with the make-up and stuff on the girls and somehow shaving my head came up or I couldn't be a chaperone. I came within a hair (pun intended) of getting it all shaved off there - but they gave me a repreive at the last second (Whew!) ![]()
