Are we sure it's not about violence, about 80% of his cartoons depicted some kind of violence towards the other teams mascots, but more about copyright infringement. He is no longer making these for us on the web but as a representative of the Atlanta Falcons. You can't depict someone else's owned copyrights without expressed approval. The NFL is very protective of their copyrights. I am sure so is Bill Watterson.

If that was the problem, they could easily have said so and he could have taken steps to NOT step on any legal toes, and it would have been totally understandable. They didn't say that and so I have to believe that what happened last week with all the "vicious" hits made a bunch of people uneasy with the steps RG was taking to remake the NFL's image. It was total PC run amok.

I am just about done with the other board, I like the more concentrated Falcon News over there, but they are hacking me off at every turn. Fuck them, my protest will be to NOT post or go there for a couple or longer weeks. If we can get this board to have a tiny bit more Falcons news and discussion then I will never have to go back.

Ignorance can be educated.....Stupidity is to the bone.

Were the Falcons actually paying him money for his cartoons? I thought he was just doing those for free for them.

He did for a loong time. Then, I think they hired him either last season or the season before. He wasn't making a fistful of cash on them, but I don't care. Still taking bread off the man's table for no legitimate reason, other than douchebaggery.

If your boss tells you not to do it, despite his/her reasons, you don't do it if you want to keep your job. I am all for him keeping his integrity but he took the bread off his own table by refusing to do what they asked. That happens at any job anywhere.

RE: Superfan's Cartoons Fired
From his post: >>>"In further communications I stated my concerns, confusion and frustrations and was summarily terminated for "not being happy or content creating content within the parameters we've outlined". I have to agree. I wasn't gonna be happy with the direction I was being asked to go with my character, and I highly doubt y'all would have liked the "neutered" Falco either. The big bird is stubborn and proud and doesn't like being told what to do. That's just how he rolls."<<<

He didnt appear to be just outright fired with no recourse. He was able to engage in a discussion about his cartoons, and it appears he refused to compromise to what the Falcons wanted. Im not defending the Falcons decision on this at all, but it appears at least he was given an opportunity to discuss and change before they made their decision. It sounds more to me like he basically Quit rather than them Firing him. Or maybe Im reading what he said wrong, I dont know.

Either way it still sucks for him.

Whatever Jesus. Like telling a baker to make bread w/out flour, but you're free to think whatever the F you want to think about it.

And while they were at it, they took the Hick'ry Stick award away, too. I have no real idea whether the players were into that or not, but it sure seemed like it. And I have ZERO doubt that the majority of the MB fanbase WAS into it. So F 'em. I got no love or understanding for the dipshits that made this decision.

Jay said on Twitter that the Hick'ry Stick is still on. Not sure if it means the same without Supes, but they are keeping it up.

RE: Superfan's Cartoons Fired
Well, Supes, it was a GREAT run.

I'm sure you know that if you're not offending SOMEONE, you're not much worth a damn as a cartoonist. So congratulations are due for your rise in recognition from the message board to Atlanta Falcons payroll . . . and Roddy White's locker. And for being so provocative that you had to be censored.

This was doomed from the start and no one's fault. It's easy to imagine someone within the organization . . . someone apart from fan promotion, apart from team development, but in public relations somewhere. The person who takes the calls from PETA. That person's life was made a living hell by Michael Vick (and a little by Babs if anyone remembers). But Vick has moved on and Babineaux's incident is largely forgotten and that individual's life is somewhat back to normal. And now this comes across their desk: A tiger getting thrashed with a Hick'ry stick! "WHAT!?!?" they scream "Who let this on our website?? And we're PAYING HIM????"

It's sort of comical to imagine the scene.

Sure, WE get it. I think it's brilliant (loved Calvin and Hobbs) And it isn't the problem with our politically correct society, because a vast majority of folks would get it and find it hilarious. Unfortunately, this is a situation (thanks, Mike) in which a vocal small minority could create a problem that this franchise doesn't need. Who can blame them for that?

So the Hick'ry stick will have to go back to where most cartoons reside . . . underground . . . HERE!

But a thought: There is another FNCO Lunch with the Legends coming up. Why not put the Bengal cartoon up for one of the charity auctions, if they'll let you. Write in some disclaimer "This cartoon in no way represents the views of the Atlanta Falcons or the National Football League etc. . . . and is totally unaffiliated with same . . . "

Heck, maybe Roddy would autograph the Hick'ry stick itself and put THAT up for auction. You could raise some money for some great causes. (Unfairly, I don't know if you and your family could be one of the causes.)

I don't think there are any bad guys here. Just an unfortunate reality.

But you can keep Falco and the Hick'ry stick alive. (They don't own the rights, do they?) At least until you get a trademark infringement cease and desist letter from the NFL or AFO.

What I'm most upset about is that this thing was taking off. You were on the verge of some much deserved notoriety. I hope I'm not just speaking for myself in saying that I somehow felt a tiny part of that, just because it was, in a way, the Board's thing. It sucks that is now being denied. But like I said, it was a great run.

Well done, Supes. REALLY well done.

HolyDuckett: The immaculately conceived gay-love-child of HolyMoses and duckettplease. (I'm straight, I'm just the result of their gay love, got it?)
