Yep. The fact that Roddy was targeted so many times in the first two games of the season is the reason Tony was free today.

This is exactly how the offense is supposed to work - you hit the guy who's open; and that guy has to make the play.

Roddy was double teamed almost every play. Matt and TG saw this and adjusted to make the first read TG. It worked.

RE: Still think Tony G. is ruining Ryan
Ruining is a bit strong.

I made a post (on the "old" new forums) for Matt to step up his game after the poor performance against the Steelers, and he has done just that. I was mainly referring to his penchant for going for high percentage throws, not progressing through his reads fully, and playing it safe. He showed today, moreso than the Cardinals game, that he has what we all knew he had when he took us to the Playoffs as a rookie. Hopefully he can keep showing his elite side on a consistent basis and instead of giving us just the flashes of brilliance, he can give it to us every game.

It helps that we dont have to play the top defensive teams every week and he has chances to BE more risky or go deep into his reads without losing us the game, as with the Cardinals. It also helps when the high percentage throws actually coincide with the gameplan to beat the opposing team, like today.

I expect him to continue the maturation process. He still hasnt played much meaningful ball with the WR lineups he was supposed to have last year or this year. Luckily that should change in the next couple weeks. I will be mentioning it again if he goes back to repeated short throws to TonyG with deeper options open, staring down TonyG from the snap to the throw, or throwing the ball away multiple times every game. Dont doubt that for a second. Wink

yeah without Tony we probably would've lost.. He was the unsung hero of today's game. He bailed us out of repeated 3rd and longs.

Well that is one reason, but the Saints have been poorly defending TEs all year. They have excellent CBs, but their coverage in the middle of the field is questionable.
