Stat that's gonna blow your mind!
I saw a thread a couple of days ago that somebody had started about the Falcons having a balanced offense, and going over 200 rushing and receiving.
Today I was looking at some stats as I will do from time to time, and I noticed that the Falcons did the same last week. I went back and found the thread and they had indeed mentioned that as well. Anyway, I said to myself "Self, that seems like a pretty unlikely accomplishment, gaining 200 yards on the ground and through the passing game two weeks in a row. I wonder when was the last time the Falcons pulled that off". So I started doing some handy dandy research, and I found the answer. NEVER. They've never even done it twice in the same season. As a matter of fact, prior to this season, the Falcons had only gained 200 yards on the ground and in the air in 5 games in their entire existence. Opener in 73 - 62-7 win against Saints. Opener in 79 - 40-34 win against Saints ( I remember that game, crazy game) Week 10 in 80 - 33-27 win against the Cardinals Week 4 in 86 - 23-20 win over Buccaneers (first time Atlanta was ever 4-0) Week 9 in 08 - 24-0 win over Raiders (held Raiders to 3 first downs) So basically it's a feat that has happened once a decade, and only once in the last 24 years prior to this season. So, regardless of what some might think about the offensive line, or those who think Mularkey sucks, or those who think Ryan can't throw the deep ball, or those who think the WRs suck (that's me), that is a pretty damn impressive accomplishment for the Atlanta Falcons offense. So props to everybody involved in that unit for pulling that off. |

RE: Stat that's gonna blow your mind!
We have no excuse not to do it again this week. SF does have a little more stout of a D than NO or Arizona. I think we have something special in Turner and Snelling.

You would think that if your team does this, it's probably an easy win. And in fact the Falcons are 7-0 in their history when they pull this off, but 4 of the 7 games were overtime wins. So that's interesting.

Another interesting note - prior to the Cardinals game last week, the Falcons had never gained 200 on the ground and in the air in a home game. All 5 previous occurences were on the road.

Singletary didn't think that one out about firing his offensive coordinator mid-season, Alex Smith has been better but he never has had a o-coordinator long term and Singletary just pulled the rug out from underneath him again. I think we might roll them again like we did last year. Might be worse. ![]() Their O-line is mainly rookies and I bet Abe is drooling on the fact of that.
