I'm honestly curious as to what we do now. Lacy is now off the board and I don't think we would draft a TE in the first when we know Tony is back for at least one more season.
So where do we go in the first? Dare I suggest a possible trade out of the first to pick up picks later in this draft or next year's?

Not sure. But if we did draft a TE then he'd have the best teacher in all history. That would really be the way to start a career. One year below Gonzo could be a QuickStart to an incredible career.
Trading down would be interesting but I don't really see it this year because of it beings Gonzos last.

It's gotta be a pass rusher of some kind. Either a 3-4 OLB who has a good QB pressure/sack record or a typical 4-3 DE.
CB and NT are not far behind. We could certainly go for either of those as well. I'm thinking DE/OLB Alex Okafor. He will likely still be there at 30 and he is a good pass rushing DE who can also tackle and play the run well. Although, if NT Jesse Williams is still there at 30, I would absolutely take him over anybody else right now. He's a beastly NT. And we all know how TD likes his Bama kids. And if we go JW at 30, I still think we might take a flier on that Margus Hunt guy at 60. I know he's raw, but he's got all the tools you can't teach. Coach that guy up and he could be very good. If CB Desmond Trufant is still there at 30, he's a very good possibility as well. |

Looking at several mock drafts by the "experts" they almost all have us taking some kind of prototypical 4-3 edge rusher. I thought we were finally shifting to a more 3-4 base defense?

We aren't switching to a base anything. Our defense will be a fast paced hybrid. Designed to confuse. Nolans 10 guys with 5 sacks.
