Smitty making me nervous....
I get players need time off...i get we had a big win....but giving the players too much time off is dangerous....we found that out when we had the number one seed and a bye before.....That extra time off....amounted to us getting killed by GB.....
I hope this is just a regular season...hey guys get a recharge and don't expect any more big breaks until we carry the trophy home.... I had never heard of teams giving a full week off during the bye until we did it that year (that said maybe I was just following more closely because it was the Falcons....) I just hope and pray that when we get that number one seed....we don't do a repeat of the last time we had it.....we need our guys focused (maybe watching the other games together and discussing strategies.....whatever....) Not to mention while we won the game our third down efficiency was SHAT.....I think he should have gave them a normal day or two....and then back to work....not 4 full.....anyone else think that too much time off is a bad thing? |

RE: Smitty making me nervous....
They had to suck up and cram/heal for that Thursday game... only fitting they get the time back that was taken by an early game. They will still get the same time and prep as a normal week for the next game, but will come into it feeling fresher, which is great when you win (and win a big game) on Thursday.
They earned the break, playing 2 games in 5 days. This is not going to cause a lack of focus. Formerly SBC Falcon

RE: Smitty making me nervous....
Yeah there really is nothing to this. He is giving them a break they need. The coaching staff will be working don't doubt that. They are taking the extra time to evaluate the game and build the game plan. Then they will take all of it to the players getting them set for Carolina. The man only sleot for less than 2 hours on Thursday night before getting back to it. So I don't think he is letting it all be easy. Even if he keeps the team loose he isn't allowing for complacency.
The guys need a chance to rest and spend time resting their bodies physically and mentally. Even so some guys are going to show up and be in the film room anyway. |

RE: Smitty making me nervous....
That we got spanked by GB business has nothing to do with the rest anyway. I mean we played very well to begin with and then we collapsed on two bad mistakes. No amount of preparation stops a collapse like that because that was the players on the field losing confidence belief and fight. That's what is different this year. Every play is a last play for a lot of our squad. That's how they treat it. How they believe they make it through. Giving everything. Especially on D. The belief amongst the players in this years squad is huge.

At this point in the season I think it's a really great thing to give the guys a few days off, and let the charge their batteries. Guys are beat up now.

RE: Smitty making me nervous....
We are beat up and played two games within 5 days. They deserve some time off during the "mini-bye". If you hadn't noticed, we are starting to really test our depth as we move towards the post-season.
It is always a good thing to get as much rest as possible as the regular season comes to a close. Everyone is probably worn out, sore, nursing injuries, and need a mental break after those two huge divisional wins. I would not be worried about the rest causing us to become a worse team. I would not be worried about Smitty's game week schedules. Take a deep breath and be grateful we have some time to get healthy. |

RE: Smitty making me nervous....
Just flashbacks...I suppose I like most on this board are wanting toi see that trophy hoisted this year.....and I agree we need to get folks healthy....even attempting to play Samuel this week was wrong....Hope they get recharged and ready to take people out.......I would give anything to see us get in the playoffs and actually blow a couple of teams out in the way and including the Superbowl! This heart attack express gets a bit old.

RE: Smitty making me nervous....
The NFL is a parity driven league. Close games are the norm, blowouts are the exception. Just accept it and quit hoping for a miracle game where we win 70-0. It is never going to happen and I am tired of hearing people complain about us not "winning dominantly". That shit is getting MUCH more annoying than us winning close games every week.

Agreed, I wish more people would realize this. |
