Should we go 3-4?

You are right, and I was thinking about that when I posted that. Jay Ratliff in my opinion is the exception, not the rule. He is so strong, fast, and athletic. Not only creates space for his LB's, but can pressure the QB extremely well. He's a rare DT that's for sure.

Babineaux has similar qualities, If he gains 10 or 15 pounds do you think he could be successful as a 3-4 NT?

He's definitely athletic. If he has the needed strength he could be a beast in a 3-4.

Pros and cons of going 3-4.

Cons

1. What do we do with John Abraham?
2. Good 3-4 nose men are not easy to come by.

Pros

2. Rob Ryan is available. There is no one in the business better.

Rob is going to the Cowboys last I heard.

RE: Should we go 3-4?
A lot of luck went our way this year. We were eaten up by good passing teams and didn't seem to find a way to stop them. Our 4-3 isn't working right now. We could get the same pressure with the same people with a 3-4 and be able to cover the middle of the field a lot better.

Our current 4-3 will not stop the Saints, Eagles, Packers, Patriots, and even Houston.

The way things are working now is that our front 4 isn't getting any push and are knocked out of the play immediately. Having an extra man to attack a potential hole may be the difference in winning a playoff game.

If we do go 3-4 we might be forced to trade Abe for a big nose tackle and draft another DE and I personally wouldn't like to do it.

We will have an easier job building around the three linebackers (spoon, lofton, nicholas) than 3 dlineman (abe/NT, Babineaux, Biermann)

RE: Should we go 3-4?
They're committed to Smitty's 4-3 and I doubt they change it, despite its ineffectiveness. We've drafted Jerry and Peters to rotate alongside Babs at DT and Bierman and Sidbury, along with whoever we pick up this offseason. I highly doubt they make the switch. I'd just love to pick up some "swing" players that can rush the passer standing up or with their hand on the ground so that we can run more exotic blitzes. BVG showed it early in the GB game, but switched back to prevent for some reason.

Great when we hold Drew Brees and the Saints offense to just 17 points.

Shit when we have a bad game with it.

Come on people.
