Shefter reports the looming cuts
According to Adam Shefter, the Falcons will be releasing Dunta Robinson, Michael Turner and John Abraham. Of course, we need to wait for confirmation, but if this turns out to be true, I applaud the front office.
The Turner and Robinson cuts are universally accepted moves, but the Abraham cut will bring out a lot of dissent. In my opinion, JA has been a great pass rusher, but his production is limited by his part time play. He will be missed, but I trust that Nolan and Smith will find a way to bring a pass rush from many different players. This rumor should be received with optimism. Maybe we will finally shift our base defense to the 3-4. I think that the 3-4 is a better formation against the option offenses that are surging in popularity. By devoting one less player to stop the interior rush, we will have one more player available for the pass rush/coverage. |

RE: Shefter reports the looming cuts
If what another member here is saying exactly how JA felt accurately, the. He deserved to be cut. His heart wasn't in it.

RE: Shefter reports the looming cuts
I don't know what is in the heart of another man. All I can judge is productivity. JA was a gifted pass rusher, but he is now a part time player with skills that will continue to diminish. However cruel it may be, he needed to get cut.
I posted something about this shortly after the SB. And, now I am going to go out on the limb and mention another sacred cow that may have to be melted....Jonathan Babineax. |

RE: Shefter reports the looming cuts
personally i am not buying the "story" we heard....nothing more than hearsay... Perhaps he knew his time was over at that point..he was hurt at the initial news...and he said something off the cuff.... knowing full well his run was over....but in the on TV interview, I thought you could tell he was a bit bummed about the situation and wished us nothing but the best.
I just find it hard to believe if he was "that bitter" in a bar that he would not have said I will miss Atlanta, but I feel they made a mistake in releasing me or something.....it didn't have to be combative....but I saw nothing in that interview that would indicate anything other than the wish to return..... Just my 2 cents....not saying anyone is lying....just maybe the story was heard in a different way than the intended delivery..... |

RE: Shefter reports the looming cuts
I buy the story but I don't think it was as bad. On a Monday its possible he heard of the news and was upset about the lost opportunity. Once cooler heads had been established we came across the NFL Network Abe which I think were his true feelings. You can't fake that.

What I said was a word-for-word quote. Take it as you wish, but I have no reason to lie/embellish/shock-post. I was going to make a thread about it before he was even cut but I was busy. Not saying you didn't hear it or qoute it as well as you remember but if it was monday and he was cut Friday, in interviews he said he was told a couple of days before....I am just saying I bet he knew monday whether it was official or not....and probably went to let off some steam....and felt betrayed. How many times have you said something only to rethink it later. This is my opinion and of course I wasn't there and you were...I wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't saying you lied or embellished....I just think there could have been something in the interpretation.....my thought is he was talking about Mike Nolan....but really it wasn't the defenses fault anyway (they only gave up 1 TD in each of the last 2 QTRs....if our offense would have got a TD or AT LEAST been able to pull off 1 FG in the 3rd QTR....we would have been able to kick at the end and surely would have been in the Superbowl....so I just don't understand his statement. That is really what I was trying to say....nothing directed towards you at all......just so you know. |

Re: Shefter reports the looming cuts
I imagine he probably feels a bit of both. At the strip club, a few drinks, let's it rip, thinks about it, tones it way down for public consumption.
