You do know the reason the last extension was voided, right? It was because of a clause that said that if Mickey Loomis was to ever leave the franchise it would void Payton's contract. Payton wants to work with a REAL GM that knows his shit and respects Payton as a partner.

And don't bring up the crap about Payton having a home in Dallas. His wife has a home that Sean bought her when they filed for divorce. Payton still has a home in New Orleans. And as for the kids, no NFL head coach see much of their family at all during the year. He'd see them just as often, maybe even more in the short flight distance to New Orleans.

And once again, you are wrong. The wait was getting permission in writing from Goodell so they could meet face to face to iron out that one detail. Goodell and the league didn't get them the permission until late November.
I'm sorry Guido but he isn't totally wrong. Payton and Jerry are good friends. Payton likes Romo and likes the area. And it makes no sense that he would see his kids more if he were in New Orleans as opposed to Dallas.

The written confirmation may have been one thing but there was clearly a contemplation on going to Dallas. They have a better defense and a potential to be a just as potent offense or maybe a notch below.

You got your coach so in the end it doesn't matter but if Dallas was out of playoff contention, then I dont think the contract would have been agreed to so soon.
