My sources tell me that the Saints still control their own playoff destiny!

Its funny to think that the next team to win a game in the swamp box might be the Atlanta Falcons.

Yup. In fact it is hilarious. By the way, where is the swamp box?

The reason Sean took so long was because he waited to see that would happen to the Cowboys. Once they got into contention, and it looked like they would have to keep Garrett, he signed the deal. You know it's true. He would have played them off each other, otherwise.

Funny... I guess you owe getting Sean to sign to the Falcons beating the Giants, letting the Cowboys sniff the playoffs. You're welcome!

There was zero chance that Payton was going anywhere, especially the Cowboys with Jerry Jones as the GM. You do know the reason the last extension was voided, right? It was because of a clause that said that if Mickey Loomis was to ever leave the franchise it would void Payton's contract. Payton wants to work with a REAL GM that knows his shit and respects Payton as a partner.

And don't bring up the crap about Payton having a home in Dallas. His wife has a home that Sean bought her when they filed for divorce. Payton still has a home in New Orleans. And as for the kids, no NFL head coach see much of their family at all during the year. He'd see them just as often, maybe even more in the short flight distance to New Orleans.

And once again, you are wrong. The wait was getting permission in writing from Goodell so they could meet face to face to iron out that one detail. Goodell and the league didn't get them the permission until late November.

I'm sorry Guido but he isn't totally wrong. Payton and Jerry are good friends. Payton likes Romo and likes the area. And it makes no sense that he would see his kids more if he were in New Orleans as opposed to Dallas.

The written confirmation may have been one thing but there was clearly a contemplation on going to Dallas. They have a better defense and a potential to be a just as potent offense or maybe a notch below.

You got your coach so in the end it doesn't matter but if Dallas was out of playoff contention, then I dont think the contract would have been agreed to so soon.

Wonder who is more disappointed with the outcome, Jerry Jones or Sean Payton. If only the Cowboys had lost a few more games both men could have got what they wanted instead of having to settle.

This whole situation came to be because of a stipulation that was almost exactly the same as Bill Parcells had in his contract with Miami and was accepted by the league with no issue. This situation came to be because Roger Goodell made yet another arbitrary judgement which flew in the face of past precedent.

I was talking about why he was suspended. He was so arrogant that he told his coaches "don't get caught" rather than "stop offering bounties" and then compounded the mistake by lying about it.

As for the Parcells deal, he actually used that escape clause and totally screwed the Miami franchise. The Dolphins are still trying to recover from that debacle. Why would Payton want a similar clause that would only serve to screw the Saints in the unfortunate event that Loomis was hit by a bus or such? It was the dire consequences of that clause for the Dolphins and their fans that caused the Commissioner to frown on accepting that type of language again.
