The reason the deal took so long in the first place was that Payton, his agent, Loomis and the Saints wanted permission, in writing, from the league that they could negotiate a deal in person. The league (aka Goodell) just recently supplied them with that written permission. This was public knowledge if you had been following the story. Secondly, they aren't stupid, they would have adjusted what needed to be adjusted to get the deal approved. Saints Fan Since 1967
