RE: Sam Baker resigns
Wow, Spotrac has a great feature I just found that gives current cap space for every team.

2013 NFL Cap Tracker

Breaks down how much cap space as well as cap commitment on each side of the ball. We're committing $57,469,473 on offense, $36,589,695, have $1,300,000 in 2012 cap rollover, $106,434,213 committed to the cap and $16,565,787 remaining.

Now it says the Falcons have $14,705,117 of cap space left.

minus 6.5 - 7 for Tony G

I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 .

/sigh

Again, they won't stack all of TG's salary on just this year. They will give him at least a 2 year deal with all of it guaranteed. And then when he announces retirement AFTER this season, the remainder (dead money) will go to next year's cap.

Why do you refuse to listen to stuff like this. Archer on 790 and Finneran on 680 both already said this is how they will do it, so it's not just BS.

RE: Sam Baker re signs
So here's where we're at:

$14,705,117

With FA's yet to sign:
Tony Gonzales - should be around $4M cap hit this year
Brent Grimes - If he signs, likely around $5-7M/yr with $3M cap hit

Those are the 2 big one's. That would leave us with about $7-$8M under the cap.
At the 30th pick in each round, rookies will cost us about $3.5M towards the cap. Which leaves us about $4M under.

Then we have additional FA's yet to sign that I'm just going to pool together:
McCown (likely coming back as backup, low cap hit, maybe $500k)
Cox (probably not coming back if Ewing is back)
Palmer (likely to re-sign, $500k hit tops)
Svitek (probably not coming back with Baker and Holmes at LT)
Walker (sadly I think he's done with us. Robertson and probably a draft pick taking his spot)
Peterson (50/50 I think because he runs DBlock and is probably still THE defensive leader in the locker room. If so, will be super cheap, maybe $500k hit tops)
Owens (I think he's also done with us unless he accepts a really cheap deal. I think we're drafting a CB and looking to Terrence Johnson and Peyton Thompson to take a backup spot)
Hope (probably coming back cheap as well, maybe $500k hit tops)

So we're probably looking at around $2.5-$3M out of this group. This essentially puts us about $1-$1.5M under the cap.

This is where I think we give Matt a new contract and he goes from being a $12M cap hit this year to being about $7M cap hit. This would knock us back down to about $6M under the cap, which should be enough to get something else in free agency.

We will sign Owens. He is a safety net.

RE: Sam Baker re signs
It would be stupid to not keep Vance. He was great last year.

RE: Sam Baker re signs
I agree it would be nice to keep both, but they may become cap casualties unless we do something with Matt to free up more room.
