Rumors about V-Jax continue to fly

Rumors have been flying across the Internet all day about the Chargers trading estranged WR Vincent Jackson to Minnesota. It’s a done deal, at least one non-news Twitter feed proclaimed.

Well, according to various reports, the rumor, for now, is not true. That’s not to say the Vikings, Chargers and Jackson’s representatives aren’t in talks, because they very well might be. Especially with Wednesday’s 4 p.m. trade deadline looming (if he’s traded, he only has to sit out a four-game suspension; if not, it’s back to six games out with San Diego).

But the Vikings might not be the only team still actively interested in somebody who wants close to $10 million a season to play.

According to Brian Stull of 101-ESPN in St. Louis, the Rams are still interested in possibly acquiring Jackson’s services. Apparently, Washington also remains in the mix.

If Jackson is traded to Minnesota, he would be available for the Oct. 17 game vs. Minnesota. If it’s St. Louis instead, he would be ready for Oct. 10 at Detroit.

Report: Bolts want 2nd & 3rd-rounders for Jackson

Most of yesterday afternoon was spent hearing not-so-hushed whispers about the prospect of Vincent Jackson being traded to the Minnesota Vikings -- at least until Michael Vick was named the starter in Philly anyway .

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported late Tuesday that the rumored deal (which has been in the hypothetical makings for quite some time) "looks dead" because the Chargers continue to demand more than the Vikes are willing to give up. Specifically, Cole reports that the Bolts want a 2011 second- and third-round pick in exchange for Jackson.

Reportedly, Minnesota has reached a deal with Jackson's camp that would pay him $6 million in 2010; the problem is that Minnesota doesn't want to give San Diego that hefty of a compensation package in return.

Instead, Cole states that they want to give up a second-rounder and then a pick whose value is tied to inking Jackson to a longer deal; based on the stubbornness of the Chargers and A.J. Smith in negotiating deals it seems pretty unlikely the Bolts will change their stance on what they're willing to take.

Any deal that the Chargers make needs to be done by 4 PM EST Wednesday -- otherwise the reduction of Jackson's suspension to four games is voided.

One more interesting point from this -- Cole's sources indicate that Jackson, if he leaves the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent after 2010, will purposely sign a back-end-loaded contract so that the Chargers won't receive the third-rounder they've been using as leverage for not giving up Jackson for less than he's worth.

That might just be a bluff coming from Jackson's camp, or it might be him spitefully getting back at the Chargers' stubbornness in dealing with his situation.

Come 4 PM EST on Wednesday, though, any vendettas will have to wait for the offseason, as once Jackson's second suspension gets locked in, it's highly unlikely that any team will be willing to part with too much value to pick up the disgruntled wideout. But, hey, on the bright side, Minnesota : Hank Baskett!

I'd be stunned if the Chargers got the 2nd and 3rd, but the Vikes are desperate.

My guess? It'll be a 2nd and a 4th.

But I think he will be a Minnesota Viking before the end of the day.

The Minnesota Vikings have finally brought in another wide receiver. Nope, not the one you’re thinking of. H. Baskett

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the Vikings have signed former Eagle Hank Baskett. Baskett is a big, athletic target.

And, in case you didn’t know, he has a really hot wife. In fact, when Googling “Hank Baskett”, check out what images come back. For even better results, check out what comes back when Googling “Hank Baskett wife”.

La Canfora says the Vikings are still working hard on a deal for Vincent Jackson. The deadline to trade for him and get part of his suspension lifted is 4:00 pm ET Wednesday.

If he goes to The Vikes, that will be one scary team in the second half of the season. Rice and VJ on the outside with Harvin in the slot..... NASTY

LOL, that would be hilarious. AJ Smith has a way with his players.

I heard the Rams dropped out because it's just too much for a guy who two DUIs.

RE: Rumors about V-Jax continue to fly
I'd be amazed if a 2nd rounder was traded for VJax, who wants $10 million a season to play, will miss the first 4 games and given the labor uncertainty towards 2011.
A big price to pay for an immature player who is a strike away from a years suspension.

Favre is playing like he wants to go home.
