RE: Rob Ryan
I'd hire Rob Ryan in a heartbeat. We have to get rid of BVG. He was a college coach trying to make it in the pros and he's been utterly exposed as a result. We need a guy like Rob Ryan or Mike Singletary to come in here and run what seems to be the future of defense in the NFL: the hybrid 3-4/4-3 with guys standing up and moving position to create confusion in the offense. This "bend but don't break never blitz, never pressure, stay in zone all game long" junk isn't getting it done.

It's official, Rob Ryan is a cowboy. Yall are naive if you thought Jones wasn't going to get his man. |

RE: Rob Ryan
To be honest I'm not a fan of either one of our coordinators.....After last night's game though it could be reasonably argued that one or both coordinators are trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
I mean honestly, who do we have on either side of the ball that coordinators on other teams actually fear? We have a lot of really good players. I don't know if we have any great players.....Great players show up big in big games.

I'd have to say our only great player is Roddy, but he's nullified if Matt can't get any protection, or Mularkey doesn't call plays to get him the ball. I don't want to believe that Tramon shut him down, but hell, maybe he did. |

This is a man that prides himself on the defenses he's come from and he's not going to let someone like BVG stand in the way of having a great defense. I hope and pray that I am wrong and you are right. That's really the only unknown in my mind about Smitty. What is his balance between loyalty and desire to win. My thought is that he will look at not just the last game but the body of work and conclude that 13-4 was pretty good and that we need tweaks not a restart. |

I really have the confidence that Mike Smith will be evaluating everyone and everything, starting with himself and both coordinators. tweaks, changes whatever you want to call them will be made. i'm pretty sure that AB and TD will want explanations, evaluations and decisive plans on what is going to be done to fix the problems. As heartbreaking as last nights game was, it's still been a helluva season and we've won more games in the last three years than anyone else in the nfc, you CAN'T tell me you're a real fan if you aren't excited about the future for our FALCONS! Here's to a productive offseason, a reasonable collective bargaining agreement and ANOTHER great season next year Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Rob Ryan
I don't know whether replacing BVG is the answer, but I do know that only rushing 3 and sitting back in a zone with the rest of your defense does not work. At least it won't work with the present personnel. There's no doubt in my mind the team could find somebody better than BVG, but things would have to get much worse before there would be any real front office motivation to replace him.
Regardless of defensive scheme, you basically got to have plenty of high-quality talent to rush the QB and cover pass receivers. We're about one super-star and three stars from having a Super Bowl-quality defense right now. As far as the expected off-season changes in the O-Line, they didn't get the job done in the biggest game of the season yesterday, so I don't see any glaring reason to worry about keeping this bunch together. Adequate replacements will be found I'm sure. |

Thats what I've been thinking all year. Especially when people crying about not getting respect. "No one is scared or worried to play us" and when you are scrapping by good teams that does not help either. My concern is, can we afford to wait for the drafts pick to pan out or do you get your hands dirty in FA |

RE: Rob Ryan
Yeah, I've been through too many disappointments in the past, I have plenty of experience in recognizing that
This team/organization is different, I have all the confidence in the world that barring injuries we will be back in the mix next season. We had a damn fine season but there is still plenty of room for improvement, I'm sure they will come out even more hungry next year. |
