Also not all that surprised by Abraham. Like I keep saying dude was a ghost the last 11 games of the season.
yup, late season slide, he was practically non existent. First said he should be released back in January but most "guaranteed" that it would never happen.

Same here, except I've actually come tantalizingly close a couple of times, only to find a site shortly after the communist NFL made them remove the video.

RE: Released Abe
Side note. Reading about the cuts. Denta could easily be asked back he was due a 3 million dollar roster bonus. Perhaps they asked for restructure and couldn't find middle ground so basically they cut him....I could easily see us saying if you want to come back for X a year....then you are welcome back....otherwise you can go elsewhere.....

whether we sign him back or not I thought his play this year was the best it has been since we signed him.. That said there are other out there. Aso (who I personally think is not worth a huge contract) is out there...he might work in Nolan's type defense with his speed.....and philly has to pay him 4 mil so you might be able to pull a discount there too.

I think for once in Falcons history, good players want to come here, not for big huge contracts but for the opportunity to play for a winning team, capable of getting into the superbowl. I want to see TD do some magic!

I don't think Dunta had a roster bonus due, I believe it was a guaranteed option bonus that was picked up in 2011 (1M per year). He will count as 3M towards the dead money this year because of it

RE: Released Abe
Wade Phillips once said the only difference between the 4-3 and 3-4 is how many hands you have in the the dirt.

The team sure got a lot younger today. I hope McClain wasn't a one year wonder. This move speaks well of Owens and McClain.
We will run a hybrid D. With Abe gone I hope we see more amoeba defenses we will have lots of speed with Mass and probably a rookie out there. I wonder why we abandoned that concept down the stretch. I think our D will improve without Abe out there as just the center of attention.

But you don't stay relevant by depending on a complete unknown like that.

For example the dumbest move you mentioned would be to leave our running game to Quizz and Snelling. We HAVE to have someone else we can count on there. Whether it be a rookie RB, S Jax, Bush, Ivory or whomever. But Quizz IS DEVELOPING. He got better than laat year and received more touches.

I don't mind putting Mass out there with a draft pick or what we have now. There has to be vets in some locations. Its not all get young because at that point you lose out on experience. As a matter of fact the vet doesn't even have to be the starter. The vet is the known commodity. The just in case plan at times.

And how does this move say our window is closing. Many people dislike what Dunta brought to the team anyway. There's an overwhelming thought that his job can be duplicated or become better. What about resigning Grimes? Windown opened up a lil bit more???

Lets take a look at DE. I like Abe but when is the last time he got a sack against an elite team or a playoff team? I will say he had a key sack against thr Seahawks I believe but thats one. What good is it tho if his presence on the team contributes to losing William Moore or good backups like Walker and Sam Baker who did a phenomenal job in the playoffs? So we take a step back on the DE part but keep our Safety in tact. Stay young.

What about Turner? People thought he was done 2 years ago. I contest that a FA rb or even a rookie RB could do what Turner did for us and more. Window back open now?

There are times you make good statements, evaluations, and arguments but then there's are those time that you make some horrible remarks that overshadow the good ones.

The window isn't near closing.

I didnt say leave running game only to Quizz and Snelling. I would be fine with drafting a rb and letting him develop with Quizz and Snelling and take a 3 head monster approach. What the Falcons should not do here is over pay talent that is up there in age like Freeny and SJAX . These are stop gaps. Falcons need to get younger on defense. They need to start to let get Mass on the field and see what he is about. I would not have a problem bringing back Grimes if the deal is right either but Falcons need to find a young corner as well.

Signing Freeny and Osi who are 4-3 players are = move from Abe if anything slight decline. No need to tie up cap space in aging veterans past their prime.

I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 .

You think replacing Abe is that easy? Okay you see how we brought in Ray Edwards and how that turn out. Pass rushers are not born every day. Whoever we bring in will have to develop especially if a rookie and if we bring in Osi and Freeny they are both on down side of career and had less production that Abe last season. both are 4-3 DES and if Nolan plans to use 3-4 they are not in plans.

You think its that easy and that simple
Replace Abe with Freeny or Osi
Bring back Tony G
Sign SJax who is upgrade over Turner

and boom were back in NFCCG. I mean cmon man. Wish it was that simple but how about team chemistry and leadership ABE brought. How about OC having to worry where 55 is every play. Turner might have slowed down last season but he still put TDS on the board. Its not as simple as boom upgrade on paper even though its highly questionable either DE would be an upgrade over Abe

Falcons will take a step back next season and win 8-10 games. Harder schedule as well. It was bound to happen. Falcons have to retool. We had a 5 YEAR WINDOW to win a championship with some veterans WE DID NOT..Now its time to retool get younger and make another run

I'm ok with taking a step back next year as long as it means we can stay competitive in the long run

I don't want Freeney or Osi either. I would like to get S Jax, Bush, or Ivory tho. What do you consider overpaying for S Jax tho because Im pretty sure nobody else wants that either, but stop gaps are important for acclimation.

Asante was/is a stop gap until we develop new or have the opportunity to develop young talent at that position. There isnt one way to do it. We have to have a mixture. We have a strong window now being 10 yards away from the SB.

We have to get young to build for the future along with grabbing players that can make an immediate impact and because of our cap situation we have to make sure that player that maked the immediate impact is cap friendly. The draftband talent at a position also comes into play.

Our biggest needs currently are CB, NT, RB, DE, LB

NT is extremely talentedbin this draft. I'm leaving that for the draft.

DE is a toss up either way, but I don't see any in FA that will he cap friendly.

RB we have a young nucleus. S Jax for 2 years is a great stopgap to keep Quizz at his current productive role or more. It gives a bigger threat than Turner with Gonzo's short window and Roddy's closing window, albeit closing very slow. And we can save that draft position until next year and use that position this year fi r a G, LB (we need depth), DE, CB, or NT

LB we have no depth at all. We need youth and athleticism. Daryl Smith is a nice FA prospect or Arthur Brown in the draft. I could see 2-3 pickups thru the draft and FA combined.

CB I really and truly hope we resign Grimes. Asante is old. McClain and Owens are a good young tandem that will continue to grow. Owens specifically has developed very well. When he came in for spells he made a positive impact. His injury hampered us from being able to take Nicholas off the field in the playoffs. I think we would have seen some Dime with him having a shot at covering instead of Nicholas, especially since Owens is pretty good in run support.

So we keep our existing window open by signing vets Grimes, S Jax, and LB depth

We keep our future bright by drafting NT, CB, DE, LB, G this year and maybe WR late and looking forward to a 1st or 2nd round RB next year when S Jax is on his last leg. Quizz will be 4th year then and considered a vet himself.

Gotta have a nice mixture, not just all about getting young

RE: Released Abe
I respect y'all opinion (Swift and Aftermath) but the window isn't close to closing. The ONLY place where there will be a definite drop off will be at DE because Abe's production will be hard to replace.

How many of Turner's TDs were goalline? S Jax can be a goalline RB if necessary. Turner's production could even be duplicated or improved with a rookie.

And I like Abe as much as anybody but his lack of production against elite teams will not be the cause of a closing window.

Seriously what other positions will we truly not be able to find a proper replacement for other than DE? Even then Mass may surprise us, but thats a longshot.
