Another option is to trade for a DE. Indy would be a good partner. They desperately need to revamp their OL. Peyton is the show in Indy, so they have to invest in protecting him. Robinson is only a rotational guy. They are going to give Everson Griffen, the DE out of USC, a shot at starting.

I'd say no way the Colts trade Mathis, but they used their first round pick last year on a DE.

Best spot would be Houston, IMHO. Mario Williams has 1 year left on his contract, and they are moving him to 3-4 DE because he's just too damn big to play OLB. Not sure how much they want to see how Williams plays at 3-4 DE and watching any potential value they could get for him to wash away. He'd be expensive, but would immediately turn into our best defensive player for the next 6-10 years.

D'oh. Matt Roth is a free agent, but I'm not sure if he is much more than a rotational player, and we need a legitimate starter who will take the majority of the reps.

I was a big fan of Roth's when he came out of college, but he's been nothing more than a rotational guy. He's never had more than 5 sacks in a season. However, he was a college 4-3 DE and has played all 5 seasons in the NFL as a 3-4 OLB. Maybe he could be more effective in our defense? I dunno. I wouldn't mind him over Chauncey.

I saw ESPN talking about how Bruce Smith got 70+ sacks as a 34DE in Phillips scheme. IF, and this is nearly an impossible if, but if he was available, they could have whatever they wanted from us for him.

Well how about put a "F" tag on one of our Oline man then trade them to Indy or some other RFA

You mean 55 under Wade, and totally consistent with the years surrounding Wade Phillips being there. Bruce also hit the same or more sacks in a number of different years.

Did Bruce actually play DE, or did he play OLB? If he could get 10+ sacks at 3-4 DE today, he would immediately become the best 3-4 DE in the NFL.

According to the Daily Trojan, Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen was arrested Monday in Los Angeles on charges of felony battery.

Griffen was pulled over at the intersection of 30th and Hoover Streets. He reportedly became aggressive when he was questioned by officers. He then fled (always a good idea), and he assaulted one of the pursuing officers (an ever better idea).

The adventure ended with a Taser gun and a felony charge.

A fourth-round pick of the Vikings in the 2010 draft, Griffen appeared in 11 games as a rookie, making 11 tackles.

Wade Phillips 3-4 is very reliant on the DE as a pass rusher and Wade has already said that his system relies on Mario so they won't trade him and Wade has told Mario that he will be a 1 gap player

I'd pay for Charles Johnson over Ray Edwards. Ray has had decent production with Allen across from him and both Williams' while Johnson has been a stud on a no-name DL. If our FO goes after Edwards, I will be very disappointed.
