Ray Edwards - Tender me and I quit.
This is the guy so many on these boards want? If he is not happy, he will quit football and pursue boxing (the sport he truly loves)?

Quote:If the Minnesota Vikings try to hold onto Ray Edwards with a restricted tender, Friday night could be the start of a new career accoridng Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.

At least, that's what the defensive end-turned-heavyweight continued to say on the eve of his professional boxing debut against former kickboxer T.J. Gibson on Friday at Grand Casino Hinckley.

"It all depends on what route is taking place," Edwards told 1500 ESPN Twin Cities in an interview scheduled to air at 1:35 p.m. Friday on the "Reusse & Mackey" show.

"I've openly said I won't play for the Vikings, because of the simple fact of my backup is getting paid 70 more percent than I am -- there's no way I can do that to myself. I'd rather do what I love doing. I love doing football as well. But if there's nobody that's going to trade for me, I will be definitely focusing on boxing."

i love football as much as the next guy but i probably wouldn't play for that tender if i was him either. not with his backup making as much as he makes. that's a slap in the face.

Thats not the point I'm trying to make. It sounds more like he is trying to find an excuse to quit football. It almost sounds like he is looking for a big payday so he can quit a little down the road and focus on boxing and still be financially secure.

I wouldn't want a player who could so easily quit playing football, especially after giving him a fat contract.

After he gets his ass beat tonight he'll change his tune. Either way he's quickly sliding out of the Falcons filter and getting his name scratched off the list by acting like a malcontent.

I don't read it that way Nuccah. It looks like he is really pissed at the Vikings. My guess is that promises were made, as they often are, and broken. If we dig, we may be able to find out that the Vikings promised to "take care" of Edwards when the time came. Edwards has played at a high level for the Vikings and he has been passed over by a slightly younger guy. That kind of thing would make anyone angry.

I am not saying that Edwards is the victim. For all we know, Edwards is an asshole in the locker room. I am certain that TD will do his homework and find out the real story behind this guy. If we sign him, it will be with eyes wide open.

Dude... Its no difference between Roddy White sitting out TC (or longer if we didnt pay him) until he gets a new contract or Vincent Jackson sitting out most of the year.... And what Edwards said... When a guy has produced for years and has earned the right to have a new contract... I understanding taking a stand... The guy is not threatening to leave football because he wants a way out... The guy wants a contract he feel he deserves... He threatening to sit out the year last year but he caved in...

I hate when a player just signed a new contract and 2 or 3 years later ask for more money... But when a guy earns his money coming off his rookie contract.. I have no problem with him making little threats (as long as its not out of line)

He knows he wont make nearly as much money boxing.... He is just using it as a leverage weapon

I dont think he reached that yet... Just like Dunta didnt reach it with the "pay da man" shoes... Dunta also talked about wanting a new contract.... He sat out some of houton's workouts as a boycott...

He is not known as a bad team guy or a off the field trouble guy so i think he is still on or radar... I still think Charles Johnson would be option 1 tho (if they are UFA)
