The hunting and/or fishing analogy is one that has been tried over and over again on the other message board several times.

I used to work for a veterinarian in rural Tennessee when I was in high school. We had several dogs brought in that were being used in an organized dog fighting ring. (The perpetrators of this illegal activity were uneducated, rural white people.....so this crime is committed by all races.)

The most vicious wounds were almost always in the neck area. Dogs know that is their opponent's most vulnerable area. The dogs we could save had to have multiple flexible tube shunts put into their throats to facilitate drainage and try to prevent infection from killing them. We couldn't save all of them.

Dogs were domesticated by man thousands of years ago. Since that domestication dogs have depended upon man for their survival. When dogs are abused and killed for man's profit and entertainment it is a violation of this trust and domestication started by man. This is an obvious and glaring difference that should be clear by now to the "what's the difference between dog fighting and hunting?" crowd.

If you can't see the difference now you either don't want to or you just aren't too intelligent.

It's not called for, but neither is creating this topic in which there are no in betweeners. It's either you have no problem with what he did and you want an explanation as to why hunting/fishing is legal and dog fighting is not. The other side thinks it's absolutely disgusting and fish and dogs are two seperate animals..so on and so forth. There will never come a time when Michael Vick+Dog Killing plus two people on opposite sides can come to an agreement. Therefore, threads like these are stupid and pointless. JMO..

If you're going to discuss it, maintain some perspective, that's all you can ask for.

There isn't going to be any winning, and no one here is actually doing anything other than typing at their key board.

But, let it go. While I can't say that I could ever truly understand the pleasure received torturing, maiming and killing those animals - I believe that is behind him - he's learned and he's trying to turn his life around.

Threads like these just keep the fires stoked and make the emotions too high - all you do is stir up emotions and cause conflict among the fans.

Let it go and let the man live his life - and don't try to push your feelings on others. The people who haven't forgiven him yet may in time - if you stop rubbing it in their faces.

I feel like an ass for starting this, but let me make it clear how I feel and what I wanted people to think about.

MICHAEL VICK WAS WRONG FOR FIGHTING DOGS. THIS IS AS TRUE AS THE SKY IS BLUE. BUT HE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS NOT DOING RIGHT BY ANIMALS. THIS THREAD WAS NOT INTENDED TO MAKE MIKE VICK APPEAR RIGHT. THE POINT WAS TO SHOW HE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS WRONG.

I agree, that's what separates this board from AFMB. We need to be held to a higher level of maturity. If a topic like this were to be started on AFMB, then it would quickly turn into racism, hatred, and anti-falconism.
