RE: ProFootballFocus - Going Deep
Here is an example of the misleading nature of statistics. Just by looking the the graphs, one would assume that Vince Young was a Pro Bowl Quarterback and the Titans were a playoff team, however, in the real world Tennessee is in turmoil and Vince Young has no job.

RE: ProFootballFocus - Going Deep
So let me get this straight, people are saying Matt Ryan doesn't need to work on his deep ball now?

Not really. He had a very small sample size compared to the other QBs on the list. All it showed was that small sample sizes coupled with an aggressive nature is a huge risk/reward game. A few incomplete deep passes could have had a much larger impact on his stats than other QBs listed. |

Mayok actually spends hours upon hours of film study on players, while i can't verify it, you'll never convince me dilfer has the mental capacity to do the kind of studying that Mayok does, much less is willing to actually do anywhere close to that kind of study. i've followed this thread closely, i don't recall anyone suggesting that MR doesn't need to work on his deep ball based on reading the article and the stats it listed. I'd love to see us work on it all the way around and have it (the deep ball) become a serious weapon in our arsenal. it clearly hasn't been...and we can blame it as much on our lack of receivers as we can Matt's ability to throw it. does he need to improve? sure, and i bet if you ask him if he thinks so, he'd say 'absolutely' he likes that word a lot. no doubt we have a QB who's smart, athletic and has some skills. he also has the capacity within himself to work hard because he's one of those rare pro's who don't think he's 'all that' and that he needs to improve, and WANTS to improve Chew on THAT, Petunia!

This is why some people here are called "Haters". They ignore bona fide 100% proof of something and still spew negatives and criticisms trying to contradict irrefutable proof. Look, if Ryan can throw from the left hash 35 yard line to the opposite right hash endzone corner perfectly leading the receiver for an indefensible over-the-shoulder catch, then he's able to throw 50 yards with accuracy. The video PROVES he's done it, so it's a FACT that he can do it. |

That's the thing, no one said noodle arm...Jedi said he had one of the worst deep balls because he puts too much air underneath it. No one disputes he can get it downfield, accuracy is a problem with his deep game at this stage in his career...I wouldn't say one of the worse, but he was 20th in a sample size of 31. I can show a video where he underthrew Harry, that doesn't mean it's fact he doesn't have a strong arm, so looking at one vid doesn't dispute dude needs work on his deep ball. |
