Position break down who is safe
Position Break Down
Who is safe who is not? (Day 1 of next season)
Offense:
QB: Matt Ryan, obviously safe Franchise QB
RB1: Michael Turner, Safe he is our workhorse and safe for at least one more year
RB2: Jason Snelling, Position in the team is safe but may be replaced at #2 RB for someone who has more speed.
RB3: Antone Smith/ Jerious Norwood, Both gone become liabilities when we improve our RB2 position.
FB: Ovie Mughelli, Pro Bowl FB safe
WR1: Roddy White, Safe record breaking season.
WR2: Michael Jenkins, Safe, Personally I don’t understand the hate he was one of the only players to show up yesterday and if Matt Ryan pass him the ball earlier on the 2nd pick when he beat his man but the ball was late getting there it could have been a different game.
WR3: Harry Douglas, Not Safe, hasn’t lived up to expectations I believe he will still be on the team next year but we need to draft a WR who has some good speed and can go deep so they will be in the slot next year.
TE1: Tony Gonzalez, His Decision, If he doesn’t retire he will be our starting TE next year.
TE2: Justin Peelle, Tony’s decision, If Tony stays we could draft his replacement and he will be our TE2 if Tony goes Justin could be our TE2.
LT: Sam Baker, Not Safe, This guy needs to be replaced at LT he has trouble containing good pass rushers and puts Matt Ryan under too much pressure.
LG: Justin Blalock, Safe, I believe he is safe just because we cannot change the entire Oline in one season.
C: Todd Mclure, 50/50, He could retire but we also may and try and get younger at this position so multiple ways he could not be with us.
RG: Harvey Dahl, Not safe, Great work ethic but if we get a new LT Baker could move to RT and Clabo to RG leaving Dahl the odd man out.
RT: Tyson Clabo, Not Safe, Could be at RG next year but isn’t a certainty.
Defence:
LE: Kroy Bierman, Not Safe, is not a NFL starting calibre LE will still be on team as a rotation guy and a ST’s player but needs to be replaced.
DT1: Jonathon Babineaux, Safe, One most underrated DT’s in the league very good.
DT2: Corey Peters, Safe, Did a great job as a rookie hopefully develops more next season.
RE: John Abraham, Safe, The only pass rusher we have but we need to find his replacement.
WLB: Mike Peterson, Not Safe, He could retire but I also think it is time to start Nicholas at one of the LBer spots.
MLB: Curtis Lofton, Safe, Heart and soul of the defence is only getting better.
SLB: Sean Weatherspoon, Safe, made good progress as a rookie just needs to stay healthy.
LCB: Dunta Robinson, Safe, Too much money invested in him but could do with a more aggressive coverage scheme (not a 8 yard cushion)
RCB: Brent Grimes, Safe, and Find of the season hopefully he continues to work and improves.
FS: Thomas Decoud, Safe, going into his 3rd full year as a starter so he should get better and better, there is also no one out there I think could be an upgrade so he gets a pass.
SS: William Moore, Safe, and another positive find this season could be something special (but I did say that about DeCoud last season)
Special Teams:
K: Matt Bryant, Safe, Finally a kicker who is clutch and has range.
P: Micheal Konen, Safe, Great on Kickoffs and had a lot of punts that landed in the 20 (not a great net but with a good returner and offense you are not going to get the chances to get big net punts.
KR: Eric Weems, Safe, Pro Bowl Returner and can tackle.
PR: Eric Weems, Safe, See Above.
Coaches:
Head Coach: Mike Smith, Safe, Saved this franchise one game won’t change much.
OC: Mike Murlarkey, Safe, Hopefully will expand the offense the more weapons we get. We are in desperate need of speed on offense and a RB that can catch.
DC: Brian Van Gorder: Safe, we had a good Defence during the season in terms of points, he does however need to get more aggressive but he is running a Mike Smith defence. Desperately needs another DE and for his players to execute (Tackle a damn Quarterback when 1 on 1)

RE: Position break down who is safe
I'd say Turner isn't safe it looks like he's going down hill on his career, not to mention he'll be 30 next year.

As of Game 1 of the Season next year I think he is safe that is not saying we do not have his replacement splitting carries with him but our first formation he will be the starter and it will be his to lose next season

RE: Position break down who is safe
I agree with the list but,

Offense

Jenkins is a No-3 receiver hes not a no-2. We need a bookend WR to complement Roddy, like Fitzgerald, I know i'm wishing but, that would be awsome.

I think Harry D is serviceable, the first year back from a knee surgery, they always question their ability, next year he will be fine.

Todd McClure needs to go, its time, 2 screwups for fumbles in big games, they need to part ways with him, and also Dahl. Matt has been running for his life too much.

We need a Scat back, to help turner, Snelling is serviceable, but we need somebody with speed, like Percy harvin, Bush, spillers type

Also we need to get Gonzos replacement started. hes going to retire maybe sooner now.

Defense. Unless we went 3-4 and tons of changes

Bierman is a backup, we need a true Bookend for Abe, thru FA preferabley, possibly 2 if Abe retires.

THe DTs are fine their learning, except JA98, his free ride is over, we need the position spot back

Mike Peterson is old, we need another Spoon type

Most of the safteies and CBs are fine except, Owens and Franks, if they can't use them why are they there.

Fitzgerald is def a possibility he's a FA this season if he opts out, he also has stated he wants to play for a Winner.
That Fumble was on Rayn he dropped the ball, not McClure

Agree with most but the ones in bold we will not get a Fitzgerald type but we could upgrade our #3 spot which makes HD's spot on the team questionable because of Weems ST ability he would get #4 spot and then HD is fighting for a spot on the team.

Fitzgerald himself is a huge possibilty especially if he opts out of his contract.
