i know players/coaches say they dont listen to the media. But in the case off MM and Matt I hope they do hear this stuff. Maybe it will light a fire under their ass.

I didn't get that he heard it from the front office .... They said to him:

Well, we were discussing the show last night and Mike Lombardi comes out and Nick was texting and I was watching and all of a sudden Mike Lombardi says, Hey there's sort of a rumbling inside the organization, his word, that the Falcons might not be as high on Matt Ryan and you come back with I've heard those whispers.


Simms responded - and I quote

Yes - Oh hey listen - it's the NFL guys, I mean there are no secrets and if one person in the Falcon front office, whoever it is, says it to anybody, it's going to be through the NFL within a day. And, you know, I've talked to a lot of people who cover teams and everything and you know I hear a lot of these rumors but I did hear that about Matt Ryan so I was kind of surprised it was brought up on TV like that, quite honestly, because we don't know what Mike's going to talk about and we sit there and wait and uhm, so we talked about it

I personally think that they are getting this from Dukes - who discussed it on the radio in Atlanta - and then took it to the NFL network. Lombardi works directly with Dukes. Once somebody puts that little whisper out there - these guys are like piranha in a fishbowl full of hamburger.

I think so too Tandy.. I know that Mike Bell and Chuck Oliver love to talk s**t about Matt so I'm assuming that he got it from one of them and that he passed it on down to Simms.

I did think the statements Phil Simms made had some definite merit though.

Ryan leaned on Roddy too much last week. It was something that was extremely predictable based on last year and the Miami preseason game.

It is a talent issue with the team or is it a mental issue with Matt? I don't know, but focusing so much on Roddy is not going to make this offense the best it can be.

I've heard Lombardi on the show stating his supposed inside info and it was dead wrong later so I think even though he was in the business for a longtime he presents opinion as fact. Why would any front office give inside info to a guy they know will repeat it on Inside the NFL every week?

I did agree with what Simms said last night to the extent that Ryan was raised to such a lofty expectation the first couple of years that anything less than Top 5 he will be considered a bust. I'm never convinced on the arm strength issue but I agree he perhaps needs to look downfield more. That issue may be caused by Musgrave coaching him to get rid of the ball very quickly which he does well but I'm starting to hate the throw aways on 3rd down granted there is only so many routes in the viewing angle on TV.

The no huddle is still semi-scripted by MM and only talented defenses deal the no huddle well.

This FO thing sounds about right. Musgrave and Murlarky must have seen some in him that bothers them. Why would they simplify the playbook? Compare that to the plays Redman and MM call. I always felt that something was off. If I you have the best QB drafted in decades(says the media) why treat him like Joey Harrington

I think Mike Bell can talk s**t about Matt Ryan for 2 hours straight... Thats all dude does...

Phil Simms confirmed that he's heard the same whispers about Matt Ryan and that it came out of the Falcons front office.


Other things he said:

Matt Ryan is good but people want great.

No question that he's a NFL starting QB, a franchise QB.

Team/coaches have to be more aggressive.

The accolades that Matt Ryan got in his first year were too big to live up too his 2nd year because the Falcons aren't an elite team. You can't expect elite QB play until you upgrade the team.

He thinks that arm strength and throwing down the field is important. He said that's what separates Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees from other QB's in the league. He said that they always keep their eyes down the field instead of looking for the 4 yard completion.

What gives? I'm not sure how much truth there is too this but I'm just repeating what was said.. I have doubts about Matt right now but if someone in the FO did indeed make those comments then that's pretty disheartening..

No, its realistic. Remember in that draft and I was getting blasted day after day? I only said that in a game like Mularkey brings, you have to build around the RB first and put the pieces in place there.

You add in a "franchis QB" and it questions your identity for the FO and the players. Now we are seeing it.

We saw in 2008 that Matt Ryan has the ability to be a great QB, and this wasn't a 3-4 game thing, this was basically the whole season.

Our offense and how we schemed completely changed when Tony got here. The Playcalling is the root of our execution problems, and it's making hard for Matt and the rest of the guys to execute and make the proper plays.
