I think this will only be Year #4 coming up for CJ. So, depending on the outcome of the CBA, I think there is still a chance that CJ could be a restricted free agent. Also, until March 4th, Panthers still can negotiate a long-term deal with CJ - so Charles Johnson is not a total unrestricted free agent just yet.

I forgot all about the new CBA could make him a restricted free agent. Thanks for telling me.

don't give me a cigar just yet - went back on wiki - Charles Johnson was drafted in April, 2007 - so this means that he has played 4 seasons in NFL - 2007,2008,2009 and 2010 - so he has been in league 4 years.

This means as long as free agency rules stay "status quo" then Charles Johnson should be an unrestricted free agent who cannot be restricted in any way.

Soooo.......all that stands in the Atlanta Falcons way now is the possibility that Carolina Panthers sign Charles Johnson to a long-term deal before unrestricted free agency signing period begins.

For what its worth, in national football post article, Charles Johnson was quoted saying he would like to stay in Carolina - hope not!

Sorry for the incorrect information before - it was not intentional.....Ok, now you can give me a cigar, GGP Cool

Kinda, sorta, reading between the lines, there is probably an under the table
verbal agreement with C.J. already in place to remain a panty. Sad

yeah, i'm sure the Panthers had felt out Charles Johnson's agent before deciding who got the franchise tag. I think its about 60-70% chance that CJ re-upps with the Panthers. UGGH!!!Dodgy

Hmm... it's pretty rare, I think, but has happened. Vilma had an agreement to resign with the Saints to bring down his trade compensation. I would think if he hits the market he would at least listen to offers. And we make big offers. And have 3 winning seasons. And we aren't in Charlotte.

all true......I think if Panthers try to lowball CJ - then he will test free agency. However, if they come with strong offer - his agent might tell him to take the "bird in the hand". We shall see...
