Therein lies the problem. My issues with this move go far beyond who is going to be assigned the title of "WR1" and "WR2." 2) The "blocking argument" was never really effective when trying to justify our old #2 WR. And we're already trotting it out for his new replacement? Not a good sign, IMO. 3) I hope what you've seen in Julio is a talent transcendent enough to carry a team by himself, if need be. Because we sure won't have many draft picks or much cap space to spend on other positions of need any time soon. |

Not necessarily that our FO has adopted their philosophies. coop, i usually agree with most of your posts, BUT... there is NO way you can compare drafting a WR who was very high on almost every teams boards, with spending tons of money on old worn out QB's as a move that is 'loading up for a short-term championship run' this is building from the draft, this is young guy who will be here a long time, we're still a very young team, with our average age being in the mid twenties. So many people for the last two years have screamed why didn't we get a WR in the draft, why didn't we go after dez bryant last year, why can't we stretch the field....we gave up 4 draft picks, not five, our first doesn't come into the trade, because we got a first. the last part of the 2nd and 4th round this year, and who knows where we'll be picking next year in the 1st and 4th. I for one haven't been impressed with that many in this years draft, so many came out last year because of the CBA crap. I would have really loved this move with a little less involved, but now we have people, OP probably not included in this, but we have SOOOOO many people who complain about the FO not doing enough to try to make a move, now we do and they complain about that, good grief..... Chew on THAT, Petunia!

Until we start spending 100,000,000 on nagging fuck-ups like Albert Haynesworth or being a media circus that blows pick after pick in Dallas, I'm not worried.
The move is interesting, but if Julio Jones lives up to the bill, I say it would be very much worth it. |

Or the aforementioned Roy Williams trade by Dallas. I think some of you are taking the reference in the thread title a bit too literally. The point is that spending five draft picks on one player has never been a recipe for success in the NFL. As I mentioned before, I hope I'm dead wrong this time. |

I'd rather stay at 27 and draft Hankerson and keep future picks So it ain't about the value, it's about the player, which is exactly what was said. You don't mind mortgaging the future for Green or Peterson, you do for Julio Jones. I'm uncomfortable with giving up what we gave up for ANYONE, but as between AJ Green and Julio Jones it's either/or to me. I think Green has the better upside (if he's good, he could be Randy Moss good), and more risk (his frame isn't sturdy enough, IMHO, to last long in the NFL). Jones could be Terrell Owens v.2 without the on-field and off-field drama. I'll take that if it pans out. |

RE: Our front office now resembles Washington and Dallas
I dont think I would have gave up that much for Peterson or Green now to be honest . I understand a move up but to give up that much is BEYOND ridiculous ..I made a list of players that I would have probably gave up as much as we did to move into that spot
Andre Johnson Aaron Rodgers Brady Manning Revis Troy P Suh Those are probably the only players I can validate trading that much for .. ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . RE: Our front office now resembles Washington and Dallas
It's hard to tell his value because he hasn't played a down yet. I like the move because it is bold. Who would the team have taken at 27 with this much talent? After Jones and Green the WR talent drops considerably. Do we reach at 27 for a second round WR or do we take another project at DE? Remember the cowboys pulled the hershel walker trade and that worked out for them. The browns will waste all those picks anyway. Remember Brady Quinn?
