Are you asking me to scale the value of money each and every year all the way back to the start of the NFL, because that is what you would have to do to truly find out. Like I said you didn't understand that. You asked a question without even realizing how complex it truly was. You still have no clue what I'm talking about probably too. I'll answer it for you, then: Championship franchises in the salary cap era do not tie up the bulk of their payroll on skill position players. They earmark that money for linemen and quarterback. |

The point I was making is that this is a move the Skins or Cowboys would have made. Not necessarily that our FO has adopted their philosophies. And loading up for a short-term championship run never works. Just ask any team that Brett Favre has played on during the last decade. |

RE: Our front office now resembles Washington and Dallas
ofcourse we gave up way too much, unless something else is in the works. Lets think outside the box for a minute. What will we do with Jenkins, will he stay or will he go? Smells like trade bait to me, maybe not for draft picks this year, but he has value in a FA trade. What about Redman, is JPW ready to step into the #2 QB position? Any offensive lineman come to mind.
Look, we just did something nobody really thought we would do. What happened to our conservatism? did they just go nuts or do they know what thier doing. It would be nieve to think that the owners havn't been discussing trades through FA and it appears that will take place right after the draft. If we pick a QB later in the draft, it may be a hint that a trade is in the works. On face value, this looks like crap, so lets go into a wait and see mode and see what happens and hope it's better than it looks. |

have a question, not that I am too lazy to do this, but when have the cowboys or redskins made a move like this....
am i mistaken. Now I know they have dropped a shit ton of money on old ass free agents, but traded their picks for a young highly touted stud WR.............. Would love some examples..... Rise Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

RE: Our front office now resembles Washington and Dallas
I know this move is controversial, but...
1) During Marvin Harrison's heyday, was Reggie Wayne a #2 WR or simply 1b? The Colts gained a competitive advantage by putting stress of opposing defenses because the weapons they gave Peyton were superior on the edge. Obviously having Manning made it all work, but Ryan has an opportunity to ascend to that level. Dimitroff simply invested in his QB. 2) Mel Kiper graded Julio as the best blocking WR he's ever graded. His (Julio's) comment after the draft was this 'I don't like to block. I love to block'. While Schefter claimed the Falcons were thisclose to landing AJ, if the Falcons really wanted him given what they were giving up, they'd have gotten him. Fact is, the package they put together was certainly enticing enough to move up to #4. Me thinks Julio was the object of affection all along. Julio's playing personality fits in line with the playing personality I believe the Falcons want to embody. Green is a fantastically talented WR, but he wasn't the fit Julio was. 3). With FA now apparently on the horizon, there is a decent chance the Falcons could lose some key FA's, particularly along the O-line. Thinking about comp picks in 2012, I think the Falcons have a very good shot of recouping that 4th rounder...maybe more. It's still a steep price to pay, but I guess I've seen what you didn't in Julio which simply boils down to a difference in opinion. |

That may have been the point you were making, but that's not the way it came out. Jones can be a vital part of our offense for a dozen years, and can grow with Ryan. This looks like an attempt to get a championship while Gonzo and Abe are still here, I assume some heavy duty investment in FA is coming. Even if that doesn't work- Falcons have a stud wide out for a long long time. |
