RE: Oh Rashard....
Osama bin Laden's death was well deserved, but I cannot celebrate it. I've seen enough videos of Muslims marching in the streets, waving flags and celebrating the infidel's pain, to know there is some measure of insanity in those people. To see Americans do the same thing reminds me that there is some measure of insanity in us all.

But I don't want to turn this into "that" discussion I was just responding to your post. Only people can give power to a word. I understand the power part. I personally laugh as well if someone was to call me the N word. I was just responding to your notion it's the same thing. It's NOT the same thing at all. Do you understand the history of that word? If you did, then you would understand why there is a difference. It's hilarious to you because it's hard for you to cope with the two words themselves. The words don't and obviously have never affected you in your life. If they did, then you would know the difference. I've been called in so many times that I'm over it. It used to affect me, but not anymore. Those times where it did affect me were a lesson for me. The difference between the two is the CONTEXT. It's like the word homo and homosexual. Most homosexuals that I know absolutely hate the word homo, but they don't mind the word homosexual. The reason being is because of the HISTORY of the CONTEXT of the word. |

^
You do know the -ER version of the word when first created was neutral right? So actually in it's original form the word was not intended to be racist on any level. Like I said it's the people who give power to the word that are to blame. The word originated as a term used in a neutral context to refer to black people, as a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective niger, meaning the color "black". That's the last thing I'll say though ATLBound. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just pointing out where the word actually comes from. It wasn't created in any hateful or racist manner.

You may not be offended, just like I'm not offended. But there are some black people offended, just like there are some white people offended. There are more black people offended because the history with that word involved harsh treatment along with it. But I am offended by the notion that it's the same. I don't see how anybody could say that while knowing the context of the word(s) |

I feel being uneducated is a huge reason there is still strong signs of racism. We're not talking about the creation of the word. We're talking about the meaning of the word when it's used in a certain CONTEXT. Also when I use the word with an -a on the end, I'm not talking about a black person specifically. I tend to use it as a phrase for my friend. I call my black, white, puerto rican, gay friends n***a and have for a very long time. My friends and I have that understanding. They know that I rather them not use that word, but they have free reign to use it around me in the same context that I use it if they feel like it. Out of respect for me they don't use it, but they don't mind if I use it. The main thing I'm preaching here is context. The same way with how gay started out being happy. It became racial or derrogatory over time. That is what I mean by history. |

RE: Oh Rashard....
ATLBound I think Swift is failing to realize we are actually having a civil discussion. No idea why he is hyping you up to "tell me". No need for the poms poms Swift but keep repeating the same stuff. Sooner or later you'll come up with an original thought that you haven't said 1,000 times already.
