Offensive Problems. You cannot tie it to just one area.

RE: Offensive Problems. You cannot tie it to just one area.
What wide receiver on our team has to be accounted for by the other team? What wide receiver strikes a sense of fear on the other team's secondary?

I can name one. We know who that is. We gotta get another threat at WR and stick him opposite of Roddy.

And yeah, I agree about the speed part. Roddy and Douglas are fast(Douglas more quick that fast), but who else really? Jenkins has straight line speed but is not agile. Gonzo ain't fast. Finn ain't fast. Snelling ain't fast. Turner ain't fast(he's the power back so it's OK really and he has more than enough speed for what we ask from him).

Like you said, we gotta get some speed and some fresh talent in here like we did with the defense. And yeah, I can see us drafting a WR, OT, OG, TE, 3rd string RB in this year's draft...

Name the last team that blew their load in FA all at once and managed to succeed, especially with any long term consistency.

You can't, because it doesn't happen.

tony gonzalez is the only stud in that group and hes at the tail end of his career. im talking about PLAYMAKERS. i cant believe you put robinson turner coleman and peterson in the same post as the players i mentioned. lmao lets get real.

signing a good wr is not "blowing your load"

and if you havent noticed, the jets (who took an awful lot of snickering and criticism from dimitroff fans about their approach to signing free agents) are doing pretty damn good with tomlinson taylor cromartie etc....

they "blew their load" and would do that ON us if we played them right now. they are one year behind us as far as starting over but a year or two ahead of us in terms of contention. im sick of seeing smarter teams win out over our ultraconservative approach to f.o. management.

The Jets were absolutely loaded with talent when Rex took over. They're hardly anything like us. We started from scratch from the top down in 2008, they didn't.

I fail to see how getting Marshall or Jackson would have saved our offense. In case you haven't noticed, Ryan isn't getting the time to go anywhere more times than not and we can't get a consistent run game at all. Tell me, who are these all-pro OL we could have signed via FA that would have put us over the top?

Heck, I want to hear what you think we should have done. Who all should we have signed?

Good post. Our O-Line is pitiful especially the left side. The OP wants to know who our weak links are and it is primarily at LT & LG. Johnson should be able to step in next season at LG. Let Blalock, Dahl, and/or Clabo walk. McClure can move over for Hawley or serve his last year while we get Hawley ready.

We need a LT (Move Baker to RT or give Reynolds a shot at RT or RG), a fast RB to take Norwood's place, TE to take Gonzo's place, and some more O-Linemen (Valdez & Bruggeman might be ready to backup next year) to serve as backups, along with a kicker and punter late in the draft if Koenan & Bryant walk.

the problem is, by the time we fill the holes we have using his system, new holes will be opened by the time he fills them. im not ready to send him packing by any means i think hes doing a decent job but he needs to let go of the bargain basement philosiphy that is leaving fillable holes wide open with sub par talent. finn being on our roster just lets you know what a joke this situation is.

one only has to take a good look at the team Jerry Jones bought and put together over the last several years in Dallas to see that you don't always come up a winner with "big name free agent signings" let's see, where are the cowboys now????

ok nuff said, i'll take the future, even though I too DO want to win now

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

babuka you have hit the nail on the head here. i was saying something similar, but not as well, in another thread. there are a number of problems that are not always so clear cut as to where it is exactly.

a few of these things may be able to be sorted out as the season goes on, if not there may have to be a few changes made after the season

+1

Great post! People are too quick to forget how complicated NFL football REALLY is.

These are all super atheletes paid millions of dollars for their abilities. All these coaches are the cream of the crop and paid millions to do their job. The FO is paid millions to be the best at team organization and talent evaluation. I know for a fact I am not on the level of any of those guys when it comes to what their jobs are. I am not egotistical enough to think otherwise.

The entire game, all three phases, are interconnected on multiple levels. That doesnt even address how coaching styles and strategy based on field position or clock management tie into the equation.

We need to execute better on offense. We could always use a new playmaker at WR/RB or a solid lineman (or two). I am far from ready to throw anyone under the bus. When we start posting up losing seasons, missing the playoffs, etc; then its time to trash your own team. These guys are the ones PAID to be pro-active and fix the problems before we even notice there is one. Have faith in them to do their job and provide us with a team we can be proud of year in and year out.
