The beautifully hilarious punch line to this story, which NBC totally missed, is that the nick name for this particular high school is the Red Devils.

What do you expect when Liberals run the educational system in this country. This isn't even some bible-thumping neocon. This is some Lib principal who thinks he can make up his own rules and dish out his make believe punishment to someone who was "defiant".

Can't anybody just appreciate the humor of a school called the "Red Devils" punishing someone so harshly for saying the word "hell".

I love how can infer someone's political affiliation thorough that three paragraph news story. This doesn't mean anything. I've worked in high schools the past five years and with students doing grad speeches and if they do something that the school doesn't like this the only way to punish them is to hold on to this piece of paper. That's all it is. She's already graduated. It's obvious the word offends someone look at the reporters way of introducing it. What schools normally do is withhold it and either give it to her later away from others or send it to her in the mail. The dad is making a big case. It's really nothing. You have to read the speech how it is written. All our kids speeches had to be approved,

OK, I got all that, but don't you think it's funny that a school with a devil as a mascot is all up in arms over the word "hell"?
