RE: My Papa
My step father lived to be 96 and until the end was proud of his medals.
You might want to think about trying to find some replacement medals at a military store or pawn shop in a military town. You could still try to get some from the Govt but at least your dad would have some medals. I just fear that the Govt route will take fore ever.

RE: My Papa
To answer a lot of the questions:

He was in the Air Force, since the beginning of World War 2. He was a tail-gunner in a bomber that flew over Germany during then. After WW2 he served in the Korean War And then he served in the Vietnam War. He retired in 1970 (right after I was born)
I cant just order "replacement medals" because I dont know all of the medals he was awarded, and i dont know what all the ones i lost were when i was 12 years old. I used to play army soldier outside and i took them outside and wore them and i lost them.

I am just trying to get paperwork done to get all of them replaced - officially - from the National Archive.
He retired a Senior Master Sargeant
Again, I apologize for bringing my personal life into this forum. I just dont know where to go to help honor this man for his service and life while he is still alive.

I am going to try to contact a GA state senator if I can. I just want to give James Everett Worsham the best Christmas ever.

RE: My Papa
I didn't do a lot of exploring, so don't know if this site has what you need. However it appears you can buy medals and ribbons from these folks:

I did a google search for "reclaiming military medals".

Good luck.

I appreciate that. But I need his original medals restored from the national archive in St Louis Missouri. Thanks very much though

I have filled out a "180" form to get this done but due to homeland security and fraud protection, they insist that nothing is going to happen for 90 days. I guess the government wants to make sure that people dont try to acquire military medals fraudulently.

So unless I can get a Ga State Senator to help move this along faster, I may have to wait until his next birthday in May. Just hope my grandpa will make it that long.

RE: My Papa
Do you think he wants the originals or would the surprise of getting something similar be enough?

I'd stay away from dealing with the gov. Just find a few pictures of him and bring that to a VFW. They will tell you everything you need to know. I'm serious. Those guys are there to get drunk but also help other vets and their families.
