The whole single player career thing doesn't appeal to me at all. Right up there with the tedium of in season recruiting in the NCAA series.

I totally agree with both points.

You guys obviously don't completely understand what connected careers actually is.

I haven't even heard of it actually, how does it work?

RE: Madden 13 Ratings
Here is an article that goes into details about everything.

But the short version is that they've essentially combined the Superstar and Franchise modes into one. So say you want to do regular franchise mode you choose a coach to take control of but a few seasons in you drafted some rookie and you want to play solely as him, you can take control of the player and it essentially becomes superstar mode without having to start everything from scratch all while keeping the in depth details of the franchise mode.

Which I have no problem with but they took out the player editor. The only rosters you can use in that mode is the rosters EA gives you which are always shitty. Plus you can no longer import draft classes from NCAA. So I hate the changes they've made. I'm sure the gameplay will be much improved this year thanks to the new gameplay engine. But for the previous reasons I stated is why I won't be wasting my money on Madden this year.

RE: Madden 13 Ratings
Not having the player editor is a big deal to me for one reason. I usually have to edit the kicker because I'm so bad at the stupid little kick meter that it makes it completely unrealistic. I could have the best kicker in the history of the game and he would look like Jason Elam in the final stages of his Falcons career.

In Madden 12 changing the accuracy / power settings changes it for the CPU too but being able to edit the ratings for my kicker allows me to balance it out more realistically. I would actually be happy with "sim kicker", purely based on stats / ratings, not my poor reflexes, but they don't offer that.

They say that every year. I've bought madden every single midnight release since '02 and honestly it's time to just not even give a damn about the franchise anymore. EA has essentially ran it down to crap since they got the exclusive nfl license.

Every single year they push some "new engine" or "dynamic something" that for a demo makes it seem like...Oh my it's completely different this year...It really isn't. Until they fix core mechanics of gameplay/flow and actually have people from the community that care/cared about the franchise test it out in-depth. It's nothing but a 60 dollar roster update.

I've seen the E3 gameplay, and frankly am not that impressed. They could've fixed trajectory issues (that lead to superman jumps of OL) so much earlier. Since '11 they still have the DB no look perfect knock-away/int, and even the small stuff.

Like during the lockout they couldn't get audio for teams (especially ours) to even be correct, shows the lack of even care for their own product. Sure they changed the crew out, but does that make it better? Who knows, but from my experience broadcast group audio doesn't make the game. It helps a little to get the experience of watching/being more real, but if they can't get the minor details fixed, what cycle gives you hope it'll be fixed this time around?

I play Madden for one thing only, the actual football part of it. I'm not interested in franchise, superstar, presentation, grass updates, etc. I want:
  • authentic game play that is as realistic as possible
  • accurate and detailed player ratings that all make an impact on game play
  • responsive controls that provide you with precision on the field
  • in-depth strategy from playbooks, preferably with custom playbooks, and even create-a-play

Graphics are nice, but I want a turbo-realistic football simulator, and Madden simply hasn't met expectations for me. Football at the strategic and tactical level is just too complex for the laymen. Nolan's defense especially will be poorly represented in a game like Madden. I'll wait a year or two.

Madden 13 Ratings
That's pretty much my take as well, I do like the franchise part of it, draft, setting depth chart etc.. But there is a ton of cool football simulator stuff they could do but won't because it doesn't appeal to the masses.

When EA got the exclusive license I had hoped someone would do a pure football sim. I wouldn't care one bit if the teams and players were fictitious (which is what you end up with anyway after 10 franchise seasons).

Madden 13 Ratings
Forgot to add, I did build a custom playbook in '12 but it was a major pain in the ass, and full of compromises, especially with regard to audibles.
