RE: Eli Manning, y'all still think Ryan is Better.
Eli is in his 8th year in the league. Ryan is in his 4th. Ryan is ahead of where Eli was in his 4th year, even though Eli had more playoff success. It is no surprise Eli has taken a step forward this year. I have posted before that all the elite QBs of the past 15 years did not make that step until somewhere between their 6th and 9th season in the league. Aaron Rodgers done it in his 5th season. He was the only exception. Some of the QBs were considered very good and even made pro bowls before that step, but that was a difference after they made that step. Peyton Manning was very good from the time he was drafted, but he did not become elite until his 7th season in 2004. Tom Brady won 3 Super Bowls without being an absolute elite QB IMO. He was very good, and good in the clutch, but he was not close to the QB he is today when they won that last Super Bowl. Drew Brees did not become elite until his second season in New Orleans IMO. He had been in the league for years before that.
It just takes a long time to master the art and craft of quarterbacking in the NFL. It takes a minimum of 4 years experience to become a great and elite QB in this league from looking at history. Even then, most QBs need 6,7, or even 8 years to move from the good/very good category to great/elite category. The good thing is that even when your QB is just good/very good you can win Super Bowls. But you need a very good defense to do it. |
