Re: "Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
Maybe we can have a separate area for each member, that way you can only offend yourself since you'll be the only one posting in that area. And if you do offend yourself each member will have admin power in their respective forum so they can administer a self ban. For any controversies that arise, well you can just sit down with yourself and work through the matter or you can click the report button to report your bad behavior to yourself so that you can deal with the matter later at a more convenient time.
I think this will work. Thoughts? |

RE: "Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
As to the thread idea. No. If you read a thread, and it upsets you, then have some damn self control and click off the thread and don't go back to it. This board has moderators, but we're not baby sitters, nor are we your personal "hug box" filtration system where you never have to read or hear anything that even slightly annoys you. Don't like Guido's opinion about the Saints? Then don't argue with him or don't go into Saints related threads. Don't like Swift? Don't go into his threads and maybe use the ignore feature, and I don't give a damn if someone quoting him some how forces you to read what he says.
This isn't complicated stuff. We aren't letting trolls or rival fans run the board and we aren't censoring people. It isn't like we're allowing the REAL trolls and shit posters to spam this board up. You ever read our member/thread approval queue during the season? Yeah, a torrent of saintsreport.com retards attempting to spam the place at any given moment. If Swift simply making a thread or Guido being a Saints fan here annoy you THAT much, then you probably shouldn't even be on the Internet. |

That's pretty much what I was saying, albeit in satirical form. |

RE: "Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
Radical. No problem with that AT ALL!
However, mods keep closing threads that are having active discussions. Seems to me you can't have both. If the policy is to reopen those threads and expect members to ignore what they don't like, I'm happy. If the policy is to ignore it, and have it locked as well, I ask you to reconsider. The hijack of this thread is a direct result of the threads where this topic belonged being closed. Hard to stay on topic when the topic is closed. Thanks! Formerly SBC Falcon

RE: "Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
without divulging anything (i don't know a lot anyway), in answer to the original post:
there is something in the works. as for the whining about threads being closed, the rules thread is a perfect example of why it has to be done. That thread was for posting the rules, it really didn't need a lot of other comments anyway. yet it turned into another bitchfest, because some people just can't do what Radical said. this thread has also morphed into a completely different topic than what it was started for. Reading through the list of moderator responsibilities, one of the first things it says I'm supposed to do, is to keep threads 'on track'. when a mod goes into a thread and says something like, 'back on topic guys' and it is ignored, than we don't have a lot of choice but to close it. yes we could merge posts into other threads, but, as already said, we're not baby sitters. be adults and stay on topic, or start a topic about what you want to talk about. Good post Radical, thanks Chew on THAT, Petunia!
