Vitt: Williams put bounty on other coaches

NEW ORLEANS -- The bounty scandal is pretty much over, but details continue to emerge.

The Times-Picayune obtained a copy of New Orleans Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt’s testimony before appeals officer and former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue in December and it contains some details that haven’t been reported before. Vitt testified that former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams offered rewards for players if they injured assistant coaches from other teams when making plays near the sideline.

But Vitt said players never followed through on that. Much of his testimony indicated Williams acted with a lot of bravado and players didn’t take what he said seriously.

“If our players went out and performed what came out of Gregg Williams' mouth, and it went from his lips to their ears, and then it went to the performance, we would have people in jail right now ma'am," Vitt said to an NFL attorney. "We would have people in jail right now."

Vitt’s testimony also called into question the credibility of former New Orleans assistant Mike Cerullo, who was one of the league’s witnesses. Vitt said coach Sean Payton once asked for police protection for his family while he was out of town because he considered Cerullo a threat.

If you knew how much of a lunatic Cerullo was you would fear for your family's safety, as well. The articles I would love to post go into detail on Cerullo. The guy is a mental case.

Mental case who was given free reign in New Orleans, along with a forging criminal and a coach that was kick-the-cat certified crazy!

Remind me again about how great your organization is?

there's nothing that says threads concerning the remaining headlines for the 'bounty' stuff can't be posted, go for it. at the time, that was deemed the center for all bountygate discussions. new threads about it won't be automatically closed.

lets get real a minute here though. there are some who just can NOT stay away from a 'swift' thread or post. some will bitch about it, just to bitch about it. when it gets into a pissing match, and not football discussion, it's time for us to do something about what some of you can't control. I'll guarantee it's not meant as censorship. As Drake said, it gets to be a damned if you do damned if you don't kind of thing.

That's the whole point of the testimony. Cerullo was NOT given full reign. He was only hired as a favor in the first place and was so incompetent that he was fired.

And the forging criminal (given credit in Sean's Autobiography) and a coach that was kick-the-cat certified crazy? You conveniently glossed over those two, and that was just the surface I was scratching.

And Guido's thread getting closed 3 pages in because it had the "potential" to turn into a bountygate thread. what the hell is that about? "We are done with the Saints DC discussion" sounds a hell of a lot like censorship to me.
