"Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
I absolutely hate when threads get closed when I want to reply. I know I'm no one special and should not just get my way, but I just find censorship of topics so barbaric as opposed to other ways of dealing with them. People should just be able to ignore topics that don't interest them, but since that seems to still clutter the main board... We should create a "controversial" thread area (like we did for important threads) where these threads can get moved rather than closed. That way, people can ignore them that want to, and others can be free to argue with the trolls and rivals for entertainment.
I mean, I saw nothing wrong with discussing the bounty, possible coach hires in the division, or Swift's faulty logic, and even asked for threads to be reopened in the past. I understand those wanting to avoid seeing such things, but I'm not them, and feel it diminishes my enjoyment of this place. Could we protect both points of view by moving things to an area easy to avoid by those fed up, so those topics can still exist?

RE: "Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
Or they could just quit locking and deleting threads that they disagree with. No reason at all to say that a topic shouldn't be discussed, that's just going way overboard. This has kind of irked me for a while now and today is the first time I've said anything about it, thanks for bringing it up Drathadon.
This is not what Mods are for. "No new info yet. Until hire, we are done with Saints coaching discussion. " IMO as long as two members want to continue discussing something and it doesn't devolve into personal insults the discussion should be left open. If the AFMB has lack of moderation this forum has over moderation. Mods shouldn't just be closing threads or deleting them because the think that the topic has been discussed enough. Fuck the Saints but if I want to talk about their likely to be shitty DC I should be able to. This forum should be trying to generate more traffic and bring in more posters, not limit discussion. If Swifts threads have to keep being deleted then perhaps it is best to ban him instead of allowing him to make a thread, have people discuss what he said, and delete the thread in the middle of the conversation. /rant. I'm down with the separate area idea btw. |

RE: "Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
I'd personally like to see that happen as well. Phocis really likes the tag system, so maybe we should have him add a 'controverisal' tag.
it was all the 'swift is a moron, jerk, asshole, idiot' posts that got it done away with........ Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: "Controversial Threads" area - a suggestion
If we have a separate area for "controversial" topics, no one will use it. Then, because people will still want to discuss "controversial" topics, they will inevitably post about them in the regular forum.
At that point, the mods have two choices. Move a thread infected with a "controversial" topic to the controversial forum and get bitched at for moving it, or don't move it and get bitched out for not moving it. So, in recap, I think this idea is

Well, for instance... This was just posted on ESPN, and while I WANTED to go to the Bounty thread to post it (our biggest thread ever), I CAN'T, because it is locked... which makes no sense to me.
------------------- Vitt: Williams put bounty on other coaches NEW ORLEANS -- The bounty scandal is pretty much over, but details continue to emerge. The Times-Picayune obtained a copy of New Orleans Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt’s testimony before appeals officer and former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue in December and it contains some details that haven’t been reported before. Vitt testified that former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams offered rewards for players if they injured assistant coaches from other teams when making plays near the sideline. But Vitt said players never followed through on that. Much of his testimony indicated Williams acted with a lot of bravado and players didn’t take what he said seriously. “If our players went out and performed what came out of Gregg Williams' mouth, and it went from his lips to their ears, and then it went to the performance, we would have people in jail right now ma'am," Vitt said to an NFL attorney. "We would have people in jail right now." Vitt’s testimony also called into question the credibility of former New Orleans assistant Mike Cerullo, who was one of the league’s witnesses. Vitt said coach Sean Payton once asked for police protection for his family while he was out of town because he considered Cerullo a threat. Formerly SBC Falcon
