Boston Marathon Bombing
This thread is for the Boston Marathon bombing.

- Reported EDIT*3 dead, 176 injured*
- EDIT *IEDS placed in backpacks*
- There was a fire in the mechanical wing of the JFK library, but it's completely unrelated

Here's a video of the explosion near the finish line. I haven't reviewed it closely, but I advise against watching it if you don't want to see anything graphic...

RE: Boston Marathon Bombing
I was following twitter as it all broke. This is sick. Boston, like most major cities, have surveillance cameras on all main streets. We can only hope they get footage of that person dropping the bombs in the containers that exploded. My prayers are not only with those killed and injured, but also with those that will have to deal with the carnage that they were forced to experience.

Forget the Saints, forget the Falcons, to hell with the NFL and all of sports right now. Let's catch the bastard responsible and destroy any others involved.

Innocents should never pay the price for whatever evil felt moved to perform this sick act.

Whomever did this, the lives ruined may never be recovered by vengeance upon you, but I'll sleep better seeing you strung up by your entrails.

RE: Boston Marathon Bombing
Don't know if anyone here is a fan of Patton Oswalt (hell, I'm not), but he had a great status update yesterday.

Quote:Boston. Fucking horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Correcting the reports you mentioned a bit....

It was originally 2 people died on scene and 1 later at the hospital, so 3 total (not 12). And upwards of 155 injured, about 20 of them very seriously. At least 5 people have had to have a limb amputated. A handful are still in ICU in critical condition so the death toll could go up. A couple dozen others are in bad shape with lots of lacerations and other concussion/blast trauma, lost sight, lost hearing, severe burns, damaged organs, etc. etc..

The bombs were in backpacks simply dropped in the middle of the sidewalk, no mail boxes.

There were no other bombs found or diffused by police. Dunno who started that rumor but it isn't true.

The saddest story out of this is the family of the 8-year old that died. The father was about a minute from the scene. The wife and 2 children were waiting for him. The 8-year old was killed instantly, the wife is one of the people in a coma in critical condition and may not survive, and the 6-year old child had to have her leg amputated and she is still in very bad shape, but expected to live.

I can't imagine what that guy must be going through. He's going to suffer from incredible guilt I'm sure. Probably angry at himself for not running harder and finishing sooner so his family might have left the area. There's probably dozens of stories like that too. People who had finished a few minutes earlier and their family moved from the area to meet up further past the finish line.

What a tragic event. How someone goes this crazy or formulates an agenda that includes hurting innocent people I just don't get. If this is Islamic Jihad based, then we're talking a whole nother ballgame. We all know why they do these types of things. Bunch of hateful zealots with a delusional religion and belief system.

They will catch the person and send them to death sentence only to die of old age.

RE: Boston Marathon Bombing
They have apparently identified the bomber in surveillance footage dropping the bag at the second bombing site.

RE: Boston Marathon Bombing
The media does a deplorably shitty job of waiting for facts before they start trying to push a story.
