RE: Number two
Well, Norwood was SUPPOSED to be a key part of the offense the past year according to TD. I assume he meant more screens, more RB receptions, and more Norwood in general(limit Turner's carries)....

I'm pretty sure that TD will look to find that change of pace back that can catch the ball and break ankles with this jukes and cuts....

As for the explosive/vertical threat WR, TD and Les Snead were reported in looking hard at the WRs at the SR Bowl. If we hear more of the WR talk at the Combine, draft visits, and Pro Day, then it would be pretty obvious that we are targeting an explosive WR, and possibly in the early rounds...

I think a lot of fans will be happy with the moves we make this offseason. I have a gut feeling...

[Image: 2menybt.jpg] Invest in the trenches with high draft picks and we will see both sides of the ball vastly improve.

Yes, he was a high first round pick. Jenks was drafted to compliment Vick as we know. Look at his stats and there's some things that jump out.

Sometimes quality is better than quantity. Jenks has a career yards per catch over 10 yards.

There was a time when Falcons fans were down on White bigtime. How did that go?

A solid #2 is essential to confront the issues in the modern NFL passing game. Thoughts?

Ok, let me address this point by point.

1. There were 153 WRs in the NFL this year that averaged 10 yards per catch. There were only 23 that didn't. Not really a valid point at all.

2. Falcons fans were down on Roddy after 2 seasons. Jenkins is entering his 8th season and he's got 6 full years starting. How long you figure we should wait for him to blossom?

3. I agree, a solid number 2 is essential. I think the Falcons should get one.

I can. He lacks in getting separation. He lacks in breakaway speed. He lacks in quickness. He lacks in vertical leaping. He pretty much plays like a guy who is 5' 9" not over 6'4". He does not play up to his measurables. The only time he shows up is when Roddy or Gonzo are blanketed, and even then he can't have a tremendous day. Is he the worst #2 in NFL history? Far from it. Could we find similar productivity on practice squads or benches around the league? Most likely.

RE: Number two
Seems everyone has a different theory on how the offense runs. Sure a point could be made that having a RB that can catch more than 12 in a whole 16 game season would compliment the Receivers, but that could also be said of our play design as well. Sure it could also be vanilla play calling, but it, etc...

Maybe we just need to look at it in terms like

1. Jenks just isn't the guy we need at this point anymore. I'd be more than happy keeping him, but as a #2 maybe not anymore.

2. Turner needs a compliment, thats just a plain fact. Snelling is no Norwood and is no Turner. He's not that guy that defenses are gonna be like "Okay he's in, watch him" He's just a smaller less battering turner. say...turner v0.7?

3. Maybe Line needs to get addressed with maybe a Vet. Like some have suggested maybe bringing in a guy like Matt Light from NE. Kick Baker to LG, who knows just get the line adjusted so Ryan can get some time to scan the field, and in turn if that happens MM can open the playbook more and see a more dynamite offense.

I kind of think of it like Dallas. Just in terms of we get Regular season wins and are getting recognized a little bit, but when it comes to playoffs we're scoffed off. Time to change that mindset and start playing deeper.

Every single STARTING RB in the league had at least 25+ receptions last year. Every one of them, with the exception of Michael Turner. If we want this team to turn a corner, either Turner needs to start catching screen passes or we need to bring in a back who will. Because Turner is not a threat to catch the ball, teams are loading up the LOS to stuff the run, even if we aren't dialing up a run play. This puts alot of pressure on our passing game because every defender is within 10 yards of the LOS.

Remember when Tandy posted those amazing stats saying matt Ryan averaged somewhere around 2 seconds before he had to get rid of the ball? Want to know why? Teams are playing us too close because there is no threat unless it's coming up the field via WR's or TE's. The Falcons were the most blitzed team last year, and because Turner wasn't catching passes out of the backfield, we had no answer. Most teams struggled to double Tony and Roddy, but the great teams were able to stop it. WE NEED A DUAL THREAT RUNNINGBACK! If Turner is in the game, there's no point in guarding him because he isn't getting a pass thrown his way. This frees up a defensive body to doubly Roddy/Tony. If Snelling is in the game, they have to worry about the pass so they can't double both Tony/Roddy.

Why is Jenkins' stats so poor? Because Matt Ryan is only averaging two seconds before releasing the ball. Now you tell me how fast you can look at 3 different targets in 2 seconds and determine who the best available target is. Given what Matt has to work with, I am shocked his INT numbers aren't higher. Most designed plays for the Falcons have either Roddy or Tony as the designated first target. They usually find themselves lined up on the same side of the field, and due to the pressure Matt can't turn his head fast enough to the other side to see if MJ is open or not. I hope this all makes sense. I'm tired, and it's my night time over here. I just got off work and i'm ready to count sheep.

My thoughts exactly!

That's why I've been saying go RB 1st round. Turner's running game has declined and is on the verge on 30.

Glad Im not the only one who thinks this.

We've thrown him quick hitches/WR screens that he takes nowhere, crossing patterns that he never gets open on, skinny posts, fly patterns, and deep-ins plenty. There's no way in hell you're going to convince me that "route design" is what is holding back YAC in this offense.

I'm saying, it seems like 90% of his catches are right by the sidelines on out routes, moving him out of bounds right away. Everything you said was addressed with the counterpoint I made that he does nothing with the ball once he gets it. But if he got the ball more on slants and things like that then he might do more.

Wes Welker averaged 9.9 UPC and he was in the Pro Bowl. He also was the number one choice.

hahahaha. That's somewhat true, which leads back to my question of what's the biggest problem with our offense, Mularkey's calls or our lack of talent?
