Got me on that one, thought he was a 3rd rounder. Happens to also have been the most in Bengals rookie history.

Did a bit of digging, and more is needed for later round DEs, but here is a good bit:

Quote:Since the '01 draft, there have been a total of 39 defensive ends drafted in the first round. Of those 39 players, only 5 recorded more than 10 sacks in their rookie campaigns:

Only 28% of the 39 first round DEs have been able to put up 10+ sacks in a season over the span of their careers. a mere 17.9% were able to do it more than once.

That is since the 2001 NFL Draft.

Those don't sound like very good odds whether you want an impact pass rusher right away or a long term pass rushing DE.

Wow, those are terrible numbers. I wonder the breakdown per position.

FA is always the way to go to get a sure thing backed by NFL stats. There are a few players each draft that are a sure thing as well, but FA is always the way to go if you need an impact player and you are willing to throw a ton of money in that direction.

Just went back to the 99 season. Here is a list of EVERY DE who accrued more than 7 sacks in their rookie seasons:
Carlos Dunlap - 2nd Round
Mark Anderson - 5th Round
Elvis Dumervil - 4th Round
Tamba Hali - 1st Round
Jared Allen - 4th Round
Will Smith - 1st Round
Jevon Kearse - 1st Round
Shaun Ellis - 1st Round
Darren Howard - 2nd Round
Justin Smith - 1st Round
Carlos Hall - 7th Round
Dwight Freeny - 1st Round
Julius Peppers - 1st Round

That equals out to just more than ONE impact pass rusher as a rookie PER YEAR.

Fuck it let's do this every year for a blue chip prospect

How about next year we trade away our 2nd /3rd and 2013 1st round pick and 2014 1st round pick for 1 blue chip prospect

Who is with me ?

It's amusing how you believe you've caught me in some big contradiction.

Our front office did look like Washington and Dallas Thursday night. And I'm excited that such a talented prospect is now on our roster.

Please explain to me how those two notions are in conflict with one another.

And how could I possibly know if the trade was worth it or not? JJ hasn't even donned a Falcons uniform yet. A better question would be how could you possibly know if the trade was worth it or not?

I'm confused with your stance coop you think our front office looks like Wash or Dallas most will take that as a insult , the. Your excited about the player which I think most are but then you say you don't know if the trade was worth it or not ? So then I guess your stance is our front office looks like a bunch of fucking clowns (wash & Dallas ) for trading up for a wr but I really dont know how trade will pan out .

No shit no one knows how this will pan out but we can take this as face value as is now do you think our front office gave up way to many picks for this unproven at this point ?

I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 .

Did you not read that thread I created? Of course, I think we gave up too much.

Oh, I see why you're confused now. You thought that because I happened to disagree with a move that our FO made that I would embark on an unbridled TD bashing spree, making sure to call special attention to the fact that simply taking a contrarian viewpoint to our GM makes me a misunderstood genius.

Sorry, trolling for attention just isn't my thing.

I'm glad we agree on TD gave up to much . Also I think you saying our front office resembles Dallas and Wash is insulting enough so I don't think you need to go further
