Nessesary changes for next season?
If the Atlanta Falcons is gonna keep up with the upper echelon teams in the league, this is some of the areas we need to improve on:
- Big play ability: I believe our lack of the big play has to do with play design rather than the players at disposal (though Im open to discuss which one weighs heavier, thereby dictating the other). It should start with a mentality change on offense as a whole and indirectly correlates to my second point which is.. - Let the man sling it: In order to improve his accuracy and decision making on the long throw, we need Matt Ryan to sling it out there on a more consistent basis. This might increase the interceptions but Im almost willing to put that aside if it can develop his accuracy on the deep balls. - consistent pass rush: This is a given and somehow it has been the achilles heel of our defense for the past 3 seasons, although the lack of a good secondary overshadowed it in 08/09. The game against New Orleans, where we really brought the pressure with different blitz packages was the best defense I have seen since the FO was overhauled, and quite frankly I would LOVE to see that be the mark of our defense ie. "we dictate what you can do, so you cannot do what you want to do" - .3 more seconds of protection for Matt Ryan, and a change of the old guard: Im not gonna get into who stays and who goes on the O-line, but we got some pretty interesting players ready to take over for McClure, Dahl, Clabo and Blalock. Joe Hawley, Garret Reynolds and Mike Johnson are all road graders, maulers ready to get in and put the heat on opposing defensive linemen. I wouldnt be surprised to see at least 2 of our old corp not getting resigned. There are 2 other specific positions where I think we will see a change and that is at WR where Brian Finneran needs to be replaced by Kerry Meier (I only base this on the video we had from TC so I know, its slim and he has'nt proved anything yet in the NFL), and at TE where I think Tony Gonzales needs to be replaced by Michael Palmer. I have been less than satisfied with the blocking from Tony Gonzales and I sometimes suspect that having Gonzales being the recieving threat that he is, somehow disables the TE to be used more in pass protection. Should he be replaced, Michael Palmer better be the complete package recieving as well as blocking, and thats something I have no knowledge about whatsoever. I guess Im hoping that Palmer is a better blocker and a faster runner when used in pass plays thereby stretching the field more. If we follow up on these points, I think we stand as a stronger team in 2011 than we did last season. Comments? |

RE: Nessesary changes for next season?
Necessary changes
1) 4 wide spread offense..It must be implanted into this scheme..We need to have 30% of our formations in this offense..Roddy flanked/Tony G/HD/Douglas and a FA wr guy like Malcom Floyd ..This will allow Ryan to make quick decisions get ball out of hands quick and take advantage of every part of the field and not just the sidelines 2)Speed back or future rb ..This rb should be groom to replace Turner in 3 years and should be able to catch ball out of backfield and take advantage of LB coverage and miss tackles..We need to design plays for this player ..From screens /to draws to being flanked out in slot ..This will be our rb when we are in 4 wide spread 3)Ryan needs to work on loft of his deep ball..This can be worked on ..What needs to be done is Ryan has to throw in tight confine . This will force the QB to get ball down . Back in day when I played baseball they used to work with the outfielders in like a area where there was plywood over top of them and our coaches didnt want the ball to hit plywood on top of them and keep ball down and low trajectory so that it can get to home plate on a line and skip..Ryan needs to get his ball down and no loft it like a punt ..Throw the ball like a fucking man get it down dont loft like a sissy or try and be to cute and hit a perfect spot ..Work on mechanics and follow through as well cause they are piss poor other then that maybe bulk up lil to 4) Coaching philosophy..Be aggressive on both sides of ball . Take risk down field or send blit every game from all angles. As a fan stand point we rather see a team trying to take a chance and getting burned then seeing a team play soft and sit back mentality 5)TD ...needs to take possibly risk on a character player and rely on leadership in locker room..Find some play makers with some swag and confidence that opposing teams have to game plan...TD needs really to knock this draft out of the park ..Its year 4 and we need to start seeing some real studs from these drafts ..take a risk maybe in draft and get into top 10 ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 . - Added by Phocis because of this post. Warned here. Do not remove. |
