RE: NFL reported TD was scouting several O-Linemans during the Senoir Bowl
I'd love to see us pick up James Carpenter. even if he doesn't start this year at LT, he does have the ability to learn and grow into the pro postition, based on what i've seen this week in senior bowl practice. I could see us picking him up in round 2 if he lasts to our spot. I don't know that we'd move up to get him though. I'm remembering we didn't have a round 2 pick last year because of the gonzo trade.
I still think we go DE in the first round. It's been an obvious need the last few years, last year was skipped over with hopes/expectations Bierman would step up. while he was improved over the previous year, he didn't put up the numbers wanted/needed/expected Chew on THAT, Petunia!

That buys a year to ease the transitions and multiplies the possible combinations if the line is reshuffled. I agree.....the franchise tag makes you overpay for Clabo for 2011 but it does not come with a long-term committment or and guaranteed money for more than the one year. Like Joe said, it buys you time...........allows you to watch the other kids develop for another year (i.e. Garrett Reynolds and/or other reserves, 2011 draft picks)... Then, if Clabo does not stay at a high level and/or the others develop nicely - we either re-sign Clabo to a long-term contract and/or let him walk.... good call Joe - I see this as the most likely outcome....we overpay Clabo for one year. |

Hopefully, there will be a starter-quality DE available by the time our picks rolls around. I am disappointed that Bailey is playing so poorly in Mobile. We need as many non-fit prospects to shine........improve our chances of landing a good 4-3 DE prospect. |

Guys, Bowers, Jordan, Kerrigan, Quinn, & Watt, are ALL going to be gone by our pick at #27. Denver, SF, Houston, NE, & Tampa, all need DE's as priority #1. And honestly, I would be sick if we took Heyward or Bailey, or even if Quinn or Watt fell to us, we're talking about not even getting top 4 of a position for our first round pick. There's no chance that a 5th or 6th positionally ranked DE could come in here & produce better than Biermann year one or even two. We need a proven 10 sack guy from FA & by the way TD was talking, it really sounds like he's going big in FA this year. We're not taking a DE in the first. I don't think I've ever been this certain about anything. |

I agree with you that we need a guarantee impact to secure the position and try to preserve Abe a lil longer, I however would just like to point out there will come a point when we have to get another end. Weighing up the pros and cons it may be a good while before Atlanta finish low enough again to get a shot at one of the top players at a position like end unless the class is small and the quality of end piss piss poor. Getting a FA end opposite Abe is a very positive and sensible move, but IF a guy like Kerrigan or say Clayborn (I know unlikely!) got to us I'd vote for the trigger pull on that, because we are going to be looking for an Abe replacement soon either way. Unless in getting an FA end we're hoping to give Biermann another chance to develop ? |

Although the need is there, I doubt we draft a DE in the first round. Other positions of need include OT, WR, and TE. At this point, I am not willing to consider Rudolph. Once we hear more about his state of health, we will have a better idea of the risks involved. That leaves us with OT or WR. If a LT quality prospect falls to #27 (doubtful), we should definitely take him. Given our position in the first round, our best value may end up being at WR. Though he hasn't gotten a lot of publicity, I think that Torrey Smith would be a good solid selection. He has break away speed, runs good routes, catches the ball well and he is a great character player. Additionally, he is a very good KR. Everything that I have heard about Smith has been positive. Having said that, we will need to address the DE position early. The strong need dictates that we address this position. Remember that Free Agency will happen after the draft. In the second round, we should be able to find a prospect that will give Bierman and Sidbury some serious competition. I am thinking of a guy like Pernell McPhee. He is a good all around DE prospect that has the physical ablility and high motor to develop quickly. |

The guy is big and tough and he cannot get to the QB. Two sacks in 13 games at the college level - what do you think that translates to at the NFL level? hmmmm........

RE: NFL reported TD was scouting several O-Linemans during the Senoir Bowl
ok so i said we'd take DE first. I really don't know the other teams needs. We don't really know what our own FO is thinking they'll do. while we can see what we think the needs are, we really don't know. has to be the same X100 for other teams.
not saying the other teams will or won't take the DE's we'd like to see on our team. I just want to see someone in a Falcons uniform that can get to AND TACKLE the QB Chew on THAT, Petunia!
