NFL reported TD was scouting several O-Linemans during the Senoir Bowl
Quote:MOBILE, Ala. -- As I pointed out Tuesday, the North team is blessed with several good offensive tackle prospects. In looking at the South squad, I see several more promising offensive linemen. Teams in need of help up front are going to be happy they came to the Senior Bowl. So i guess we wont see all of our up front guys coming back next. I would be sad to see one of them leave, but i guess there's always a business side to it. What do u think Falcons fan?

Nothing wrong with seeing who's out there. Football starts up front on the O and D lines.....but if we take an O-Lineman in the 1st round I will not be happy.
BTW, my boy James Carpenter is pretty damn good

Just depth. I would figure one of the guys we drafted last year will get a spot, and someone will walk (probably Dahl).

TD must realize that Tyson Clabo will be a hot FA. I can easily see Jerry Jones out-bidding everyone for his services. For this reason, TD must be prepared. While Garrett is said to be a RT candidate, maybe this report is a sign that the FO is not entirely convinced.
I am beginning to like the idea of drafting an OT in the second round. Gilbert, Cannon, Carpenter, Love and Barksdale are legitimate prospects for us to pick up in the second round. All three can start, as rookies, at RT and have the physical skills to eventually move to the LT spot, if the need arises. |

i've been watching the senior bowl coverage. i'm no talent scout at all, but i do know that the guys there have bragged tremendously on carpenter and hudson. and Mayok was almost drooling waiting to see Sherrod match up in the one on one drills with the DE's.
i could see the potential of taking a left tackle and moving Baker over to the right side, it's something that's been discussed several times on the boards. Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: NFL reported TD was scouting several O-Linemans during the Senoir Bowl
All I know is that in TC, Garrett Reynolds was by far the biggest guy on the entire field. He's got guerilla arms & giant hands too. Clabo was easily the second biggest. When they were both standing next to each other with their helmets on, it still looked like Reynolds was at least 2-3 inches taller than Clabo, so I'm not so sure the 6'7" stat that's listed for him is accurate, I think he might be 6'8" even. On top of that, it looked like Reynolds' shoulders were about 6 inches wider than everybody else. The guy is just an absolute beast. I'm really surprised he hasn't played much yet. Although he is only 23 yrs old.
Mike Johnson & Jose Valdez are both also absolutely huge guys. Hawley is also quite a bit bigger than McClure, except for his gut, which is a lot thinner. Hell, ALL of these guys have less body fat & more muscle than our currently line. I really like all these kids to be honest. An O-line of Reynolds, Johnson, Hawley, Valdez, & Clabo sounds better than the current one. That line there is 6 inches taller, 13 pounds heavier but with a lot less fat & a ton more muscle, & 22 years younger than our current line. Baker can become a backup or if Valdez still isn't up to par, he could play RG or swap with Johnson & play LG. The other thing is, this line is easily twice as fast as the current line, which obviously would enable a viable screen game & pulling out to edge block for a sweeping scat-back (wink wink). If you haven't seen the video of Hawley running receiver routes, that kid is a freaking athlete. He easily runs a 5.0, maybe even slightly under that. And he's a weightroom workout warrior too. He's definitely the center of the future for us. |

You can bank on Clabo getting the franchise tag, provided a new CBA doesn't come along in a hurry and eliminate such things, which strikes me as possible but unlikely. Tyson won't be happy, but it will still be a nice pay day. |

Call me crazy, which I've come to expect, but move Baker to right guard and draft that left tackle. That would mean we have to retain Clabo. And I am crazy,...we'll let Clabo go and keep Baker at LT. Perhaps Dimitroff made the same mistake Reeves did. Drafting DTs, a safety, LBs and acquiring a big time CB while ignoring the O-line,...just a thought.

The question is whether TD will pony up the money. It seems that he has been preparing for a gradual overhaul of the OL. The rumors of us looking at OT's is certainly suspicious. |
